Hello All - own a rMBPro (early 2013 w/ OS X 10.11.3) - a 6-symbol PW has worked perfectly for nearly 3 years to sign into my user account (whether after an overnight sleep or napping w/ the top open) - in the last week or so, I've noticed the problems below (posted at another Apple website) - hopefully someone has experienced this issue and can advise - thanks for any comments. Dave

Post 1: In the last few weeks w/o any updates to my OS X, my login screen either refuses my password and/or automatically in front of my eyes will type in asterisks by itself - this was most noticeable when I opened the laptop in the morning after an overnight sleep - usually would see the login screen as an empty box and would type in my PW which was refused (a couple of deletes allowed the same PW to be accepted).

But, sometimes w/ the cover open during the day, the same occurrence would occur - the pic below just happened, i.e. computer asleep but cover open, some asterisks were present and all of a sudden others appeared w/o my touching the KB - I've had this computer nearly 3 years and have never noticed this behavior - NOW, I could do a SMC and a PRAM, but not sure this would have an effect? The computer has been rebooted several times w/o a cure. Any suggestions? Dave

Post 2: Well, the problem persists - same symptoms of not accepting my password (even occurs if I sign out of my account and back in) or automatically entering a long string of asterisks that are not accepted - new symptom, repetitive noises in the background (thumps like an entry sound) - last night I resent the PRAM and this morning had the same issue - just reset the SMC, and the problem persists - reboots do not seem to help.

I've just disabled the PW need to simply log me into my account automatically - not a problem - the laptop virtually never leaves the house - will see? Dave

Do you ever experience random characters when typing documents?
If you have bluetooth on then try turning it off in case something is causing interference that your rMBP is interpreting as keystrokes.
It also could be a keyboard problem with a sticking key, but that should be pretty obvious when doing any typing.

Hello - thanks for responding - yes, I do have bluetooth on (really just to connect intermittently to my soundbar to play from Spotify or my Amazon library) and letters do appear randomly in the login screen (i.e. asterisks) and letters in spotlight - my BT panel states nothing is connected, but I'll disable it to see if the repetitive and spontaneous character entries stop. Dave :)
