Hello everyone,

I've noticed some weird behavior on my new MBPro 16" with M1Pro chips...
When MacOS upgrade from 12.0.0 to 12.0.1 (build 21A559), the login screen wallpaper (just after boot) change by itself from Monterey Graphic to Chromatic blue after the install reboot.

On my iMac Intel, or on my wife MBAir with M1 chips, the login screen wallpaper (just after boot) is still the Monterey Graphic (same build 12.0.1 21A559).

Is it intended by Apple ? Chromatic blue on pro model and Monterey Graphic on other ?
It kind annoy me, I've reinstalled Monterey 3 times on the MBPro with the same result... still Chromatic blue login wallpaper.

I post 2 pictures to illustrate.

Thanks in advance :D

Same problem. Mine reverts back to Chroma Red wallpaper at the initial boot login screen. My desktop wallpaper is set to Monterey. It's quite annoying and ugly.

Having the same issue as @TitouDoc

Using new 16-inch M1 Max 64GB on Monterey 12.0.1.

Seeing that friggin' ugly-ass chroma wallpaper on boot login screen (login/lock screen is fine, and uses the same wallpaper as I have set for my desktop background — i.e. the purple Monterey one).

Filevault has an affect on this. With filevault off, the boot login wallpaper should match your desktop wallpaper. (You also need to have your 'display login window as' set to 'list of users' and I believe your guest accounts need to be off. I don't know what happens if you have multiple users.)

Get Onyx from Titanium Software.... go to Parameters... Login... it's in there. Make sure you DL the right version for your OS and Intel / Apple Silicon type.

did you find a solution to this? I'm having the same issue on my 16" M1 Pro. It's chromatic blue wallpaper on log in then it changes to my selection once I am logged in

There is no solution to this as this isn't a bug. As @CPx has already explained the choice of wallpaper depends on whether or not FileVault is enabled.

I have turned FileVault off and still have the same issue... I also downloaded Onyx and manually selected my wallpaper but it is still reverting to the blue chromatic

Yes I did and I'm still experiencing the same issue... It only happens on the 16" M1 Pro, my MacBook Air M1 has the same wallpaper at start up and once I'm logged in which is what led me to believe it is a bug on the new pros.

I am the only user (I have login window as set to "list of users") and I do not have any guest users. Let me know if there is anything else I can try.

Thanks!

That's a bummer, sorry. I'm able to set my wallpaper on my M1 Air under the listed conditions. I'm afraid I'm unable to help further.

Anyone find a resolution on this? Thank you!
Create a directory /Library/Caches/Desktop Pictures/UUID*

*Replacing UUID with your user UUID from System Preferences/Users & Groups (Advanced Options)

After you Lock Screen, macOS will populate this directory with a file called lockscreen.png, lockscreen.png will be replaced with whatever you choose as a wallpaper from here on out.

The result.

It's a bug.

PS Fixed a couple typos

Coming here a little late since I finally upgraded my 2018 Mini to Monterey from Catalina yesterday. Thanks a lot for this, it works perfectly for me. The default Monterey login screen was really horrible, especially on a 32 inch monitor in a dark room!
