All the Tb 3 ports are occupied on my 7.1
The XDR comes this weekend and will need to connect the Webcam.
I'm thinking to route the webcam Tb3 cable through the CalDigit TS3 Plus.
Thoughts about the data transfer rate for this and if there will be any noticeable lags in the video performance?

Should be fine on the built in XDR ports. USB2 speeds are more than enough for full performance.

If you have to put it on the Caldigit for other reasons that’s fine too.

The Apple Webpage stated that you can only connect to the Mac Pro directly if you want the 4k setting.

"
To enjoy 4K video on any of the following devices, use the 2-meter extended cable (included) to connect the webcam directly to Mac Pro or the 16-inch MacBook Pro."

I don't think the XDR can handle that amount of data transfer.

I would think this means USB2 speeds are not enough (which is what you get with the models listed on the logitech website), though it's likely marginal. Attaching it to a caldigit dock should work out just the same as attaching it directly. It uses USBC, not thunderbolt, after all.

Thanks for this feedback.
Had I known the need for more Tb3 ports, I would have ordered an extra Vega II gpu!

The Logitech 4K Magnetic Webcam looks awful on the XDR. Grainy, pixelated, fine static... not fit for recording anything. Presently, it's going through the CalDigit T3 Hub and not directly into the XDR as there is no open port left.
