Just received the Logitech touch combo for my 10.5 iPad Pro. Very high quality, keys feel better than my 12 inch MacBook, and mouse is smooth, nice click, smooth scrolling and all gestures including 3 fingers appear to be supported. The back is a bit thick but very sturdy. Feels like a solid book when closed. Have to remove the keyboard portion for reading as keyboard portion will not fold back. Back cover also can be used w an apple leather cover as you can see below. Overall really does seem similar in functionally to the Apple mouse/keyboard combo for the 11 inch that they are releasing. Very happy so far as it does feel like a small laptop, but I will see if I can keep the same workflow as my Mac and use on a daily basis.
Also some comparison pics to the surface go that I have. Very similar in form factor w this case.

Looks really nice, thanks for sharing the pictures and your first impressions!

Sure thing, happy to!

Couple more thoughts. The trackpad is really high quality glass from the Feel of it. Feels very similar to the surface go, and fairly similar in quality to a Mac trackpad (obviously smaller and without the force touch Engineering).

The keyboard portion also closes magnetically to the iPad when closing, opening. The screen also appears to turn on automatically when opening the keyboard, which is nice.

So tempting. I just bought our second Apple Smart Keyboard a few months ago. I already had one for my 10.5" iPad Pro, and then got one for Xmas for my wife's 10.2" iPad. The touchpad would be nice, as using a separate Magic Mouse II is kinda annoying, and the even bigger feature I'm wanting is the backlit keyboard. I don't use my Apple Pencil much, but part of the reason is because the ASK doesn't have anywhere to store it. I also generally prefer real clickable trackpads to the Force Touch ones. And scissor keys? Nice.

So, now I'm considering getting this keyboard, as I won't be upgrading to the 11" iPad Pro along with its uber expensive Magic Keyboard until it gets 5G, and I may even wait for mini-LED. I will have to wait anyway though, since the Logitech is not available in Canada yet. It's not even listed on the Logitech Canada website yet.

I take it there is just the one 40 degree angle. Have you compared the angle to the Apple Smart Keyboard? How stable is it on your lap?

Wow, really? That’s great to hear, the trackpad was my main concern. I’ve seen people with review units talking about how you can only click on the bottom portion of the pad, is that true? Also, would you mind testing the “Tap to click” (Settings-General-Trackpad IIRC) option to see if you can tap anywhere on the pad to register a click?

Thanks for posting your impressions, I think I might actually grab one of these if the reviews look good.

I was also worried about tap to click. But when I enabled that option, it works! You can just tap the trackpad anywhere without actually pressing it and it registers a click. I do that on my Mac so was glad to see it was there.

While the quality of the trackpad is very high I feel, you still have to click in the bottom third of the trackpad, just like in the old MacBooks without the force touch feature. How your hand naturally rests on the trackpad however, you would generally click in that area anyways. The trackpad was also my main worry about this keyboard before getting it. But that worry went away, it really is that good IMO. Very satisfying click without being too firm. Pinch to zoom works very smoothly as well. To me it feels as if apple has made this trackpad in terms of quality and functionality.

Well, found an issue with the trackpad that could be a dealbreaker. Seems like there may be a software setting but I cant find it. I am not able to click on the right side of the trackpad to do a secondary click, like copy/paste menus when highlighting text. Under trackpad options, I can enable “two finger secondary click” but with that option on or off, I’m not able to click on the right side of the trackpad to right click. I’m not sure if I am missing something, but this could be dealbreaker for my workflow as I use right click on my Mac by just pressing the right Side of the trackpad. Seems like a simple but very annoying oversight if this does not exist, especially how good the 2 and 3 finger gestures are on this trackpad.

If anyone gets this keyboard combo and has any insights, would really appreciate it. Thanks!

The kickstand angle is infinitely adjustable and goes pretty far down. It’s very similar to the latest surface pros and gos.

IIRC, this issue also exists on the Magic Trackpad 2 on iPadOS. For some reason, the OS only recognizes a single input option, so you can only have the single click available. This may be different on the Logitech one. Can you try this?

1. Go to Settings - Accessibility - Touch - AssistiveTouch - Pointing Devices
2. There should be some kind of option to customize buttons, tap that
3. When it asks for the desired input, try clicking the right side on the trackpad. If it registers as a secondary input, then you should be able to change it & have the right side act as a right click. If it doesn’t, then I think that means the trackpad only has the single input and it won’t be possible to fix it.

Just got mine delivered earlier, and I'm really impressed with it. The kickstand angles work in a variety of settings, and I've been using it at my desk and also on the sofa just as easily.

Thanks for your insight. I enabled assistive touch and looked for a “pointing devices“ menu, but it does not exist which is strange. In the past I have used the Pointing devices option, but I believe that when I was testing an external mouse prior to 13.4 using assistive touch. Perhaps this keyboard doesn’t support the pointing devices menu disabling it in assistive touch once this keyboard is connected.

With use of Magic Trackpad 2 (I don’t have one), is there an option to enable doing a single finger right click by clicking on the right side of the trackpad with one finger? We know the Mac can use that right side of the trackpad for a single click so this may be a iPad OS limitation then. The only options I have to modify trackpad options that I can see is under General—>Trackpad where I have the ability to only do 4 things - control tracking speed, enable/disable natural scrolling, enable/disable tap to click, and enable/disable two finger secondary click. TBH, I don’t see any option to control scroll speed either via two finger scrolling on a page.

This seems to be an odd ommision, the right single click since I imagine that’s how most people right click on their trackpads. I have never used the two finger click and have never been a fan of it.
[automerge]1587161349[/automerge]
To add, I just tried removing the keyboard/trackpad, and using an external mouse. It then enables the option to choose right or left mouse button for secondary click. Also under assistive devices, I’m able to click under this mouse under Bluetooth settings, and then “assign a button” which doesn’t appear to exist when using the Logitech keyboard trackpad.

As excited as I was to use this keyboard, the forced two fingers to secondary click seems like a dealbreaker for my work flow. Will have to see if I can Get used to this.

Oops, sorry about that, looks like the menu was changed in 13.4. It should be Settings-Accessibility-Touch-AssistiveTouch-Devices. Once you hit “Devices”, what do you see? When I have nothing connected, I just see “Bluetooth Devices”. If I connect my trackpad, I see “Connected Devices” and then my connected trackpad underneath it. Can you try checking there and see if it shows up under that menu?

Got mine this morning and have been using it all afternoon. Some thoughts:

The Good:
- Overall high quality design and fit/finish.
- The keyboard has good feel and tactility, though the buttons feel a little cramped. I think that’s understandable given it’s a 10.2” iPad.
- As stated by others, the trackpad feels great and seems to scroll well
- The option in settings to tap the trackpad to select works really well.
- The stand angles work well and detachable keyboard is convenient.

Not Good:
- I don’t know if I have a defective unit or if there is a software/firmware issue, but my keyboard and trackpad keep disconnecting. I have check the physical connection and I don’t see any issues, but my keyboard stopped registering clicks and the backlight will randomly stop for a second or two. I believe it’s firmware because the trackpad will completely stop working until I restart my iPad. This issue is really frustrating and may be a deal breaker.
- Like someone previously said, I can’t figure out how to get the 2-finger to right click to work correctly.
- The case and keyboard adds significant bulk. With this case, my iPad is thicker and weighs more than my company provided 14” Dell laptop.

At this time I’m not sure how to feel because the issues I’m having are deal breakers, but I’m not sure if they’ll be fixed with an upcoming update. Anyone else have intermittent disconnects with their keyboard and trackpad? I haven’t seen this complaint from other users that were using the Magic Trackpad.

That’s weird, I certainly hope it’s just a software issue. One of the reviewers mentioned hitting an issue that required help from Logitech and was big enough to delay his review, I wonder if he had the same problem as you did?

Yeah, this is what I’m most worried about. The smart keyboard is ~290-ish grams, and this thing is more than double the weight. Would you say the bulk is bad enough to ruin the overall experience?

Adding the Logitech keyboard case really hampers portability and the majority of the weight appears to be the adjustable stand mechanism. While it doesn’t ruin the overall experience, it may be enough to get me to return it. That will largely depend on the disconnecting issue.

No worries. I looked where you mentioned under connected devices under assistive touch, and it shows nothing, except if I want to set up a bluetooth mouse, I can look for a new blue tooth device. It doesn’t show the trackpad or any trackpad setting there if you were wondering.

Interestingly, I had a first gen Magic Mouse that I had lying around. I paired it and oddly enough, there is an option under general trackpad, that allows you to select secondary click as “right click”. The touch scrolling doesn’t work but I had read and known about that. This first gen Magic Mouse I believe also has one continuous sensory surface and iPadOS is able to detect between a left and right click based on which part of the continuous mouse surface you click on. I believe trackpad should theoretically work the same.

Hi there, Glad to see you found many positive things about the Keyboard case including the build quality of the case and trackpad as positive. I’m not sure if maybe its an issue with the smart connector on yours, maybe you can wipe it with a cloth and try again? I am using my Logitech touch combo with an iPad Pro 10.5 and I haven’t had any disconnect issues. It has been working continuously for hours.

It is a fairly thick and heavy device, ironically heavier than my 12” MacBook that I have also. I was trying to make iPad OS as productive as my MacBook but in the end have to weight pros and cons of the productivity with this device with thickness and weight.

As someone mentioned in another thread, if there was a slim case with a kick stand on amazon and ability to connect an apple Smart Cover in the front, then you could connect just the keyboard/trackpad portion and have a much thinner and lighter device. I looked on amazon and so far haven’t seen anything of this type of back cover with kickstand being sold.

The Apple Smart Keyboard for the 10.2" iPad is considered full-sized, although it has 18 mm key spacing like the 11" iPad Pro, as opposed to the also full-sized 19 mm key spacing you find in the 12.9" iPad Pro and Macs.

Both 18 and 19 mm key spacing are considered appropriate for proper ergonomics.

Do you know the key spacing for the Logitech? The easiest way to find out is just to measure it. Measure the distance from the left side of the A key to the left side of the ' key (which is 10 keys width) on a US English keyboard, and divide by 10.

I personally find both 18 and 19 mm very comfortable. If significantly below 18 mm, I can't type properly on it, and if very small, it actually hurts my wrists. For example, on the Zagg Hinged Keyboard Folio for the iPad Air, it's a key spacing of 17 mm, which I don't like at all. It's great for my 7 year-old kid though.

Interesting I wasn’t aware of this. I just checked my logitech touch spacing and as you stated, it comes out to be 18mm on the dot.

Also strange, is that while I can type “ using the shift key and pressing the apostrophe key, I cannot type ‘ without using the shift key (I had to use the software keyboard for that character), it just wont work. What a strange bug, I assume its software since with the shift key I can type “. Anyone else having this odd issue?
[automerge]1587169388[/automerge]
Ha, I just fixed the issue based on the suggestion of another post and poster. You have to go to settings, general, Keyboard, and change “automatic” to ”US”, otherwise some of the keys like ‘ doesn’t work unless you use the character + the shift key. What a strange and issue that I’m hoping gets fixed in the next release, and I think people will have issues w/ this and wont know the fix unless they come to the forums.

I’m really interested in this but I just keep so burned by my Apple Smart Keyboard. It doesn’t work at all anymore. No physical damage or anything. Just a glorified stand at this point. I really hope the reliability is better with these.

Thank you for the review and pics! The case adds bulk to the iPad but somehow makes it rather cute tbh. When in closed position and from the side, it kinda reminds me of an ibook G4 😄. I bet this case gonna sell really well specially for the younger audience (school/uni) that benefits from the extra protections. Great to know the trackpad supports full Apple gestures. Jealous they don’t make one for 11” (as a cheaper alternative to magic keyboard)

To me it feels as if apple has made this trackpad in terms of quality and functionality.

Thanks for sharing hands on pictures and thoughts. I'm feeling more confident to buy it now.

Probably it was answered before, but how's the key travel on the keyboard?

Typing on it now, it has more travel than the butterfly keyboards and feels far more stable. More akin to the Magic keyboard on the new MBAs and MBP 16, with a good amount of key feedback. The backlight is not as strong as on a Mac, but it is very decent.

Could someone measure the key spacing please? :)

Since Apple was involved, my guess is that it is 18 mm.

EDIT:

Sorry, missed the post where the OP said it’s 18 mm.
