So it looks like Ben Mayo is having the same issues I’m having with this keyboard case, but he may have come across the source of the issue. It’s not actually the keyboard case, but possibly the smart connector on the 10.2” iPad.

If anyone else is having issues, what iPad are you using? And is there anyone with the case that is NOT having issues with this attached to a 10.2” iPad?

Anyone else having weird issues with scrolling? Like try to scroll with two fingers and then stop + let go, but the screen keeps scrolling. I saw some other people talking about this, not sure if it’s a bug or what :(

Yes I’m having the same issue. The strange thing is it’s not consistent but it’s definitely bothersome since it’s sporadic. Stopping scrolling and removing your hand results in a slight continuation of scroll, which sounds like what you’re describing. I don’t think any particular setting can change this and could be a bug requiring future software release. I wonder if the magic keyboard folks are also having the same issue.

I posted this in one of the magic keyboard threads “the everything magic keyboard thread” to see if anyone can check this to see its maybe a software issue.

Fantastic comparison, thank you. I’ve used a surface before, so the comparison is really helpful.

How stable is the stand and whole setup when used in the lap - either on the couch or in bed? I switched to a Brydge keyboard for the 10.5” since I wanted that stability and I love it.

Im not sure if this is the same thing. You can scroll w two fingers, completely stop and only when you remove the two fingers again, it begins movement again even though the only action you did was now remove your fingers, and accelerates a brief scroll.

I've discovered dead keys on mine, which is a shame. Having to return.

This sounds like a setting issue I mentioned earlier. check my post From before in this thread but I was having some keys not working unless I held shift w it to use the secondary characters which was odd. Make sure under settings —> general —> keyboards, you have the keyboard settingto us English (or whatever region you’re in), instead of automatic. The default automatic setting causes issues w some keys not registering.

Yeah, that’s exactly it. Kinda ruins a lot of the trackpad functionality, which sucks because the rest is pretty great. This issue doesn’t happen at all with the Apple trackpad, so I’m assuming it won’t be an issue on the magic keyboard either. Seems like it’s a 3rd party problem.

Also, have you noticed any heavy battery drain while using the keyboard? I’m losing about 1% every 4-5 mins, I can’t tell if that’s fast or not.

Could be caused by the “Trackpad Inertia” setting found in Settings?

Unfortunately, that’s not it, that’s just referring to when you’re moving the cursor with one finger. Here’s a vid of the issue: . See how I scroll with two fingers, stop, but then it keeps going? That happens when I let go of the trackpad. Really annoying :(

Sure thing! Happy to help. It’s actually a fairly stable setup. I was able to use this on my lap and type, use the trackpad without the whole thing getting wobbly. I am impressed in terms of Lapability since I know that’s always a concern for surface like device setups.

That scrolling weirdness where it continues to scroll also happens with my Magic Mouse 2. It’s a software issue.

It’s as if the scrolling “friction” is set too low.

Thanks for confirming that as well, I was thinking too that was the case. So theoretically this could be fixed in a subsequent software update and I imagine that magic keyboard users also experience the same thing.
I am not sure yet how much this bothers me, but I definitely notice it. It’s more prevalent the faster you scroll prior to stopping and lifting your fingers up. Scrolling very slow prior to stopping and lifting your fingers up seems to minimize or not display this issue. So does seem to hint at a “friction” issue.

That’s strange, it doesn’t happen at all on the Magic Trackpad, I’m surprised it happens on a different Apple product. I guess that’s good news though, since if it’s affecting a ton of devices, it should be a priority.

I see, so has someone confirmed this happens on the Apple magic keyboard as well? Overall if I don’t think about it, the extra scrolling issue is infrequent and is not a deal-breaker. The keyboard otherwise is really overall wonderful in keyboard quality, materials, and trackpad feel. We obviously have a 14d return policy, but I can definitely see using my iPad more with finally not having to reach up every time to touch the screen, thereby increasing productivity and reducing arm fatigue. Hoping IOS 13.4.x or iOS 14 improve on this functionality and fix some of these issues. The keyboard itself is firmware upgreadable looks like seeing the logitech app that is downloaded for this keyboard, so that is also reassuring.

No worries. I looked where you mentioned under connected devices under assistive touch, and it shows nothing, except if I want to set up a bluetooth mouse, I can look for a new blue tooth device. It doesn’t show the trackpad or any trackpad setting there if you were wondering.

Interestingly, I had a first gen Magic Mouse that I had lying around. I paired it and oddly enough, there is an option under general trackpad, that allows you to select secondary click as “right click”. The touch scrolling doesn’t work but I had read and known about that. This first gen Magic Mouse I believe also has one continuous sensory surface and iPadOS is able to detect between a left and right click based on which part of the continuous mouse surface you click on. I believe trackpad should theoretically work the same.

Hi there, Glad to see you found many positive things about the Keyboard case including the build quality of the case and trackpad as positive. I’m not sure if maybe its an issue with the smart connector on yours, maybe you can wipe it with a cloth and try again? I am using my Logitech touch combo with an iPad Pro 10.5 and I haven’t had any disconnect issues. It has been working continuously for hours.

It is a fairly thick and heavy device, ironically heavier than my 12” MacBook that I have also. I was trying to make iPad OS as productive as my MacBook but in the end have to weight pros and cons of the productivity with this device with thickness and weight.

As someone mentioned in another thread, if there was a slim case with a kick stand on amazon and ability to connect an apple Smart Cover in the front, then you could connect just the keyboard/trackpad portion and have a much thinner and lighter device. I looked on amazon and so far haven’t seen anything of this type of back cover with kickstand being sold.
Can you post a picture? I haven’t seen one review with an iPad Pro!

I've discovered my dead key issue was software only, so after a change in settings, I'm all sorted.

I really like this keyboard, and the ease of detaching to use as a handheld tablet or to write/sketch, is perfect.

Can see me getting real value out of this, especially when we can travel again - I go back and forth to Italy a lot, and I normally just take the Air 3.

How about lying down on the couch? I'm finding I use my MBP a lot (resting on my chest or at hips/waist) while on the couch for casual browsing, emailing, Numbers/Pages, and texting. I'm wondering if instead of going to the new MacBook Air, I could simply get this and comfortably replace using the MBP on the couch.

I’m sitting with my legs elevated on my recliner and this thing is pretty solid. I think it’s much more “lap-able” than the Surface Pro that I used to own.

The more I use this the more I like it, though I’m probably still returning it if I can’t find resolution for my keyboard/trackpad disconnecting issue. It’s really making me want to pick up an IPP with the Magic Keyboard though.

I’d say if you don’t have the disconnect issue I’m having, this thing is a homerun for all of the reasons described. It really is good.

I would echo this. I‘ve been using it on my lap this afternoon and it’s great. However, I use an ottoman which makes it easier.

I’m not having any scroll issues with my keyboard and I’m using Beta 13.4.5 which takes care of the missing keys problem.

I’m loving this case. Having an integrated kickstand makes this a joy to use. I can place it on my dresser and watch YouTube videos or type on my recliner. And unlike that stupid Brydge keyboard, it allows for back protection at all times.

So I installed the beta update currently available, I believe 13.4.5 beta, and it actually fixes this issue as another poster mentioned above! So it is an IOs software thing. I had to restore back to 13.4.1 since this current beta build introduces an ugly bug where some hardware trackpad clicks don’t work after you start moving the cursor. It was very annoying. I filed a bug report for this second findings, but hope they keep that two finger scrolling fix intact.

That’s great to hear, thanks for testing out 13.4.5. After using this thing for a few days, it’s almost hard to remember what using the iPad was like before the integrated trackpad, it really changes the experience for the better & I’m really happy with it. My only concerns were the scroll glitch (Which sounds like it’s been fixed), and the potential for more battery drain than usual (Which doesn’t seem to be an issue, I had 6 hours and 11 mins of screen time today and I’m still at 40%). Logitech really did a great job here 😁

I agree, can’t imagine not having this great trackpad and keyboard on my iPad now that we have it. Easy to detach keyboard also and have been using the tablet with the back cover for reading and browsing also w no issues And good protection, albeit a little heavier. Haven’t decided yet 100% if keeping it but strongly leaning that way. 👍🏾

I think they will need a few iterations of the OS to smoothen our the trackpad bugs. I will also likely install the next build too to see if they fix that other trackpad clicking bug that was introduced in the current beta build.

I’m really interested in this but I just keep so burned by my Apple Smart Keyboard. It doesn’t work at all anymore. No physical damage or anything. Just a glorified stand at this point. I really hope the reliability is better with these.
My Smart Keyboard started acting flakey a few months ago, it would randomly disconnect and reconnect again. It drove me nuts, I almost bought another one from eBay. I thought it was software-related but one day I started wiggling the keyboard by pulling up on the “triangle” behind the iPad (while in typing configuration) and I could get it to connect again. Sometimes it would stay connected for a few days but it would invariably disconnect and start acting up again.

Just last week I decided the problem had to be a physical issue with the Smart Connector itself, so I took a closer look at the pins in the connector (on the keyboard) and noticed that the middle pin seemed to be sitting slightly lower than the 2 outer pins. Maybe this was the cause of the intermittent disconnection? I don’t have tweezers fine enough to try to pull out the pin (and there’s no guarantee that I’d be able to pull it outwards without breaking it) so I decided to gently arch the “spine” where the connector sits, to see if this would force the connector pins to more consistently attach to the iPad. I can happily report that the keyboard has stayed connected to the iPad 100%, no more wiggling required for more than 48 hrs now (knock on wood)! Give this a try, it may work for you. YMMV.

Just to update you guys, there’s a tip on a review video, I believe by Maxtech, that I saw. If you connect an external mouse in addition to the Logitech keyboard, the option “pointer options” appears under accessibility and allows you to adjust the scroll speed, turn of trackpad inertia (which I highly recommend), and some other studd. Interestingly when you turn off the external mouse, these settings are also saved when using the logitech trackpad also! I don’t know whey apple didn’t just make these settings more accesible.

Not Good:
- I don’t know if I have a defective unit or if there is a software/firmware issue, but my keyboard and trackpad keep disconnecting. I have check the physical connection and I don’t see any issues, but my keyboard stopped registering clicks and the backlight will randomly stop for a second or two. I believe it’s firmware because the trackpad will completely stop working until I restart my iPad. This issue is really frustrating and may be a deal breaker.
Received mine today and I keep having a really similar issue. The keyboard/trackpad disconnects anywhere from every few minutes to several times in a minute. Typing and trackpad both stop working, the keyboard backlight goes out, then fades back on a second later. It always takes around 2-3 seconds for functionality to return. It is extremely flaky. I just upgraded to iOS 13.4.5 public beta, didn’t help. My smart connector looks just fine. The keyboard isn’t even moving or wiggling at all, the device is perfectly steady on my desk. In fact, it doesn’t even disconnect when I intentionally wiggle it a bunch, so I don’t think that is the cause. This seems to be more of a firmware or software issue and happening truly randomly.
