Does anyone have experience with the Logitech Combo Case compared to the Apple Magic Keyboard? Any thoughts?

In particular, does anyone know if one is lighter than the other and by how much?

I have both for the M1 12.9 and prefer/use the MKB. I like the smaller footprint of the MKB and the cantilevered raising of the display, bringing it forward over the top of the keyboard. I can also easily remove the tablet from the keyboard and put it in a magnetic case with a cover; removing the tablet from the Logi is more of a struggle. If one is lighter than the other, it is hard to tell in actual use vs spec numbers. For me, the MKB wins hands down and while the price delta is significant, I'd still go with the MKB for myself.

How is removing the tablet from the logi a struggle? You literally just snap it away from the keyboard and be on your way. Super convenient. Plus you can sit in the couch with the logi comfortably than you can with the MKB.

i have both but far prefer the mkb which i was surprised by

I was, too. I had the Logi and picked up the MKB on a whim, expecting to return it. After using it a while, the Logi went into a box where it has remained untouched. The price sucks but I like it enough that I'll definitely get another if I move to the M4 12.9.

I found the version for my M1 was uncomfortable due to the thin flap that I would extend to change the angle while on my lap, on a couch.

I have a Magic Keyboard for an older generation of iPad Pro. It functions great, but I don't really like the weight.

Are there any lighter weight options worth considering? I had in mind to get the keyboard folio, but it looks like that's not available for the newest generation iPad Air

I would like a case with a keyboard that is light but also easy to detach, whereas I understand that the Logitech, while fairly light, is pretty difficult to detach (the case not the keyboard).

I had the Magic Keyboard on my 12.9" Pro and my daughter had a Combo Touch on her 10.9" Air.

AVOID THE COMBO TOUCH!! The quality is garbage. The keyboard and trackpad were fine but the case thats required to use the keyboard part fell apart and ended up having sharp edges and was dangerous to use and the whole thing had to be discarded.

The Magic Keyboard was the best keyboard and trackpad I'd ever used up to that point and durability was significantly better, it ended up with a few scratches and slightly dog eared corners but for the most part it was solid till the day I sold it.

For the approx £100 saving its not worth it, both are far overpriced for what they are but the Magic Keyboard was the far better choice.

I’ve had the MKB for a 12.9” & Combo for my 11”.

There’s no denying the quality of the MKB, it feels and performs like an Apple product simply put.

I have however ordered the Combo for my soon to arrive 13”. I primarily use my device laying flat, note taking with the Pencil. The Combo is perfect for that.

The way I done this with the MKB was to take it out the device, close the case, then lay the iPad on top of the closed case. It was fine, but I preferred the experience with the Combo.

If you’re going to mostly use the device in landscape, like a laptop, you can’t beat the MKB.

Is the Magic Keyboard the only Apple option for a keyboard for the newest iPad Air?

I have the Logitech combo (for 18 months now I think?) and its decent for the most part.

Things I wish were different:
  • It's heavy. Taking the case and keyboard off the iPad Air makes it literally half the weight.
  • The rim around the edge of the screen makes pencil use annoying. It means I want to remove the case, but then I am stuck with the camera bump rocking the device on the table.
I think the Magic Keyboard case is a rip off, but considering it when I upgrade. Given I already sunk decent money into the Logitech option I'm not going to buy again for this iPad though.

You could pair a regular bluetooth keyboard like the desktop Magic Keyboard if you just want to type on it.
Tried this on my spouse’s older iPad I loved it. Amazon has a great carry case for the Apple computer keyboard, that unfold and give a one angle holder for the iPad. Fintie brand. Works great!

Had both. Hated the Magic Keyboard. Touchpad is way too small. Preferred the Logitech because of the trackpad size and you can remove the keyboard and use it on the kickstand to watch content. plus cheaper.

Just a FYI in case you didn't see - the Combo Touch lost 100g in weight for the 11" and 120g on the 13" vs the last models. It is also noticeably thinner as well.

The Magic Keyboard for the iPad Air has a tiny trackpad and no function key row. I've used the Combo Touch on the M1 iPad Air and have an order in for the Combo Touch for the M2 13" Air but it's not arriving until the end of the month so I've had to buy an Apple folio case in the meantime. No idea why it wasn't ready in time for launch.

Weight wise they are about the same. The Combo Touch can have the keyboard removed easily with the case still on the iPad itself. The footprint is bigger on the Combo Touch as the keyboard comes out in front of it rather than the iPad sitting over it. But the kickstand has a greater range on the Combo Touch than the Magic Keyboard.

The Combo Touch is also £120 cheaper .

The smart keyboard folio works with it but I think apple discontinued, probably can find it elsewhere though.
Apple stills sells the Smart Keyboard Folio. Not available for the new Pros, but works with the Air.
