It's ugly because it's made to be durable. Technically, Apple could make a more durable product that doesn't need all these cases, but that'll lead to a bigger, heavier and probably uglier design.

Don't believe me? Go and Google Panasonic Toughbook

Too late, too ugly, too compromised. My school already switched to Chromebooks because they were cheaper and had built-in keyboards. Sucks for me as the music teacher, as GarageBand was all my students needed and there are 0 competitors on Chrome.

Why can't Apple admit that they need a touchscreen device with a keyboard? This thing is hideous.

Exact reason why Chromebooks are wrong for class. Just a web browser in a full package. Schools just need to do 'BYOD' (last 2 years of HS had this Co 2014) until they can integrate technology into the cirriculum of as many classes as possible. If there's no apps or programs students can use in conjunction with course work, then this is just another cheap way for schools to buy computers.

Have you looked at Beautiful Audio Editor? I know, nothing comes even a bit close to Garageband, but this is at least something you can use on a chromebook.

No, it's actually the exact same dimensions as the 2013 iPad Air. Maybe they're just not updated on the specs for this new model.

For a few years with my iPad Air I used a Logitech ultrathin magnetic clip-on keyboard cover. It worked quite well, battery was excellent on it. It functioned like a smart cover and had a spot for the iPad to sit in it snuggly while typing.

This was it: http://support.logitech.com/en_us/product/ultrathin-keyboard-cover-ipad-5

I think they've also made several decent cases that included a built in keyboard as well.
Thanks for the recommendation. Yeah, they must not have had the correct info because you are right. That's the last time I trust support for anything. They can't even get something basic like dimensions right! They also couldn't tell me if it would be available in the store on Friday or next week. There is a lot of good reasons to be secretive, but when people are trying to buy your crap—that is not the time! I was trying to see if it would be better to buy in store to get in time for his birthday. Whatever Apple…

Read United States Patriot Acts 1, 2, and 3.
This is not an answer to my question. I am not going to read 3 acts of congress to try and interpret what you're concerned about. I was not asking to argue with you, just out of genuine interest. If you don't want to articulate, it's ok :)

I don't think Google should be able to collect data off school children, period, full stop. If you read the articles (especially from the EFF) they basically lied about what they were doing. Why should our kids be a product for advertisers?
Maybe, I don't disagree. If the kids are using Google searches and writing papers, are they essentially tracking how kids do research effectively? I don't know how damaging that can be, especially if used to optimize searches. I know, everyone wants to think Google is some ugly corporation that wants to exploit these kids. Fact is, we all use Google search because it's the best, and this is probably part of why.

That's just their Logi Blok case for the Air 2 retooled for the dimensions of this new iPad. I was tempted numerous times to get one for my Air 2 but it is so bulky. If they make a slim version of that, I'd be all over it.

Sorry for the curt response. Chrome Books (and iPads, PCs, etc.) gather all data specified in Patriot Acts 1, 2, and 3. Children in school are not exempt. Just FYI if you were interested in looking into it.
