I'll try to keep this short and sweet: I have had a Logitech MX Keys and MX Master 3 Mouse for Mac that I use interchangeably with my 2 Macs and my iPad. I love them both dearly and use both pretty much all day every day for work and personal use.

Here's my problem: I got both of these accessories almost exactly 2 years ago. While the mouse is still lasting weeks at a time on a full charge, the keyboard is no longer lasting more than 2 days. I've already ordered a new one to replace it, and I don't really care about paying the premium for another of the same since I love the typing on it so much. I'm just a little annoyed by the short life of the rechargeable battery.

Have any of you had this keyboard and used it this heavily and then had to replace it after 2 years? I was thinking about giving it to my son to use as a wired keyboard, but I feel like if the battery is shot that's probably not a safe option. Seems like it's going to the electronics recycling facility, which is a shame for such a relatively new accessory.

Why would it not be a safe option? I would think it would work fine as a wired keyboard for many years to come.

I guess I'm just concerned about it sitting there always plugged in and the battery swelling and starting a fire or something.

I've had the MX Keys and Mouse for years (not sure how long, but they were the original MX hardware releases) and both hold a charge about the same amount of time as they did when I got them. It's hard to say how long that is because they last so long. Easily a month for both, the mouse a bit longer (probably because I leave the backlighting on the keyboard turned on all the time).

The MX 3 mouse still lasts as long as the day I got it (same day as the keyboard). Must have just been a dud battery in the keyboard.

Does the keyboard work with a USB cable, by any chance?
If so, why not just leave it plugged in to the Mac, as a "wired" keyboard?

I just don’t want more wires draped around. I repurposed it as a wired keyboard for my son’s Mac mini

Mine's starting to do the same. It's dropped from 50% to 5% this morning. I was wondering whether it starts to struggle if there are numerous other bluetooth devices running and transferring data at the same time. Subjectively it feels like it's got worse since I've started using a bluetooth speaker rather than my Mac's internal speakers.

Anyway, found this:

No idea whether it's a good move, don't blame me if you do it, get it wrong and burn your entire town down.

Do you have the keyboard model with a backlight? My MX Mechanical has a backlight and it can really affect battery life depending on the mode it is in. Also, I've started turning off the keyboard when I'm not using it. The power switch is in a pretty convenient place. Try that and see how your battery life goes.

Mine is the same, very poor battery life. Backlight drains the battery. Even turning the keyboard off after each day doesn't seem to add much time to the battery. 😑
