and yes to your question. i would say its safe to say using an update would over write previous drivers installed. Just go into extensions and get info on the extensions. look at there versions, apply update check versions again.

What mac are you running?

James,

I am at work right now so I really can't follow up on that link.

I did everything you suggested doing in your recent post.

I had already indicated that I replaced ALL the files that you
suggested be replaced.

So, the situation remains that the MIC on the webcam does not
work and now I am getting popping noises out of my speakers.

I am running an Intel Mac Pro not yet 6 months old.

I am new to Mac so I am not sure what you mean by extensions.

Quite simply, I was wondering if there was a way to get an older
version of Apple update prior to 10.4.10 and just installing it and
overwriting the newer version.

Perhaps that is what I was doing (in bits and pieces) with your
instructions, but I was hoping for a one click install that would
overwrite everything and revert me back to 10.4.9

Followed the instructions on the link, downloaded the INTEL Combo
update version. Did exactly as told. Webcam mic still does not work.

Not sure if the popping has gone away yet. Will let you know.

EDIT: Popping noise still there. This did nothing! Guess I'll have
to wait until Apple does another update.

The drivers were included with the 10.4.9 update, but the USB audio drivers were broken by the 10.4.10 update.

While we're all waiting for that update another question comes to mind.

The wide angle used by this cam isn't for my tastes... Does anyone know of any software that is capable of zooming this webcam?

Quicktime 7.2 update

Yes 10.4.10 came out, screwed the whole usb audio driver. Apple then fixed it with an audio update. Thank you

I have just recently updated to Quicktime 7.2 and now find the audio of my Quickcam Ultravision down again.

Anybody experiencing the same problems?

So just to confirm...

10.4.10 = no audio with the quickcam
10.4.10 + Audio Update 2007-001 = audio with quickcam
10.4.10 + Audio Update 2007-001 + QT 7.2 = no audio with quickcam?

So users should not install QT 7.2, basically, if they can avoid it.

Fixed

Probably redundant.

The Apple Update USB audio fix arrived today - worked a treat: I hate a broke system.

Thanks for the great contributions on this forum

Hi guys. I friend of mine bought the Quickcam fusion today, but doesn't get it to work at all. It is not recognized by skype nor iChat.

The computer is a 1,5Ghz Powerbook 12", with OSX 10.4.10 installed.
Do you have any clues?

Thanks. But why does Apple sell this camera on AppleStore, if you have to buy additional software to make it work?

I believe there are two versions of the Quickcam Fusion versions. Only the newer one is UVC compliant. If the one you bought is not UVC it is not going to work properly.

Yes you are correct. I have the older version and this is not supported natively by 10.4.9 or 10.4.10. Mine is a year old and in order to get video I had to purchase drivers from www.ioxperts.com. Their drivers are still beta, after a year for the Fusion Camera, plus their support sucks. The drivers seem to work when they want to. There is also no audio.

Why are there no decent webcams for MACS?

Any UVC compliant Web-cam will work without any extra software or drivers on Mac OS X 10.4.9 or higher. The Xbox 360 webcam is one and it normally costs $40 or less.
