Dear friends,

Logitech wireless speakers Z500 don't play any sound while connected with USB cable.Bluetooth connection works (when switched in control panel to USB Logitech!?), 3,5mm port works fine also.
But when connected with USB cable, the speakers are emitting green "connection" light, but no sound.
Tried roaming through all of the sound preferences output items.
No luck.
Is there a possibility to reset Sound preferences items?
Or, is there another way of making this USB cable working?

Thanx

logitech z500 not working with usb cable

Hello

I too have the same problem, on a brand new Mac mini with 10.6 and also tried on my mother's 10.5 based IMac. I contacted Logitech's support, and they weren't much help - last communication from them enclosed below. Interestingly it appears as a usb device in the system info, and if you pass through the usb devices to windows using Parallels it works fine under XP in the virtual environment. This tells me it is not a hardware issue, but the OSX driver obviously doesn't like something about it :(

Sorry I have no solution - I'd love to hear one. I keep meaning to book a "genius" appointment at my local Apple store and taking it in, but I fear I may be wasting my time...

Steve

Logitech response

Thank you for contacting our Logitech Technical Support. We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems with our product. We apologise for the delay in replying to your query.

In reply to your query regarding Z500 Wireless Notebook Speakers, we have tested these speakers in our office. These are the findings of our tests:

1) When connected to an Apple Mac computer with OS 10.6.4 Snow Leopard, the speakers did not work via USB (no sound being generated).
They were not even detected in System Preferences>Audio>Output Device.
2) When connected to a PC with Windows 7/Vista operating systems, the speakers worked ok via USB cable. Sound was being generated.

Considering the above, we will forward this issue to our product specialists to confirm the official Logitech stand on whether Z500 Wireless Notebook Speakers are supported on Apple Mac platform via USB connection.

Once further updates have become available, we will contact you back. Estimated response time is 2-3 working days. Thank you for your patience.
