Logitech makes nice products. If this had a hinge, it might be worth a little more.
Adding a hinge might be difficult because to keep the charging connection, the charging 'prongs' would also have to rotate and given how shallow they are, that might not be easily possible.

... I don't like that the iPad rests against aluminium. It will be interesting to see what other manufacturers come up with.
Probably other manufacturers will come up something with a protective rubber lining to prevent scratching the iPad case, and $50 cheaper.

IMHO this item isn't even up to the standards of a Kickstarter project, let alone a large company like Logitech. I'll pass on this Logitech product.

Wow the first smart connector accessory since the launch of the smart connector half a year ago.

I was waiting for something like this. Seems a bit too pricey, but I'll consider it if it gets discounted. I use my iPad Pro with a USB mechanical keyboard (using the USB camera adapter), and since this charging option allows use of lightening connector for my keyboard, that's a win.

Looks kinda cool, but why pay for this. Is it seriously to much to plugin a cable?

For those that use it at their desk. It provides a docking station that keeps it propped up while charging at the same time. It's not about convenience of charging, because usually this isn't something you just plug in next to your bed at light or where ever and leave it, surely you can just use the cable for that. But when it's sitting at a desk, it looks and is much nicer to have it charge through the connector than have that extra cable visible. And if you're going to get a stand for it, you may as well get a nice one with this feature.

Reviving this thread because Apple has returned the Smart Connector to the bottom of the new iPad. The iPad Pro second gen had the Smart Connector moved to the back.

I wonder if the new iPad charges via the Smart Connector. Does anybody have one of these Logi Bases and a new iPad to check? If it works, maybe it’s a second chance to build up an ecosystem of Smart Connector accessories.

I had a Logi base when they came out and it was great. Somewhere over the years since I got rid of it, but I thought it was a good product. I'd be surprised if it worked with the latest iPad due to the rounded vs squared iPad side design. However it'd be cool to hear if someone could make it work!
