Kind of threw this together in a short while for a side business specializing in computer tech/repair/maintenance etc and I wanted to create a simple straight forward logo with a few back meanings.

the logo itself is as most people can tell is based on the universal power symbol on most electronic devices but modified it to have the initials of the company to make up the main center icon (octometa tech)

any good color ideas? or improvements?
after staring it at off and on for a few hours i just wanted a fresh perspective.

    thanks =)

I'm not a designer in any way, but as a consumer, I like the 1st one if I knew what the company was (business before, etc). The 3rd one I like better because it has the logo, and the companies name, making it all tie together. :)

thank you for your time and checking them out.
i agree with the 1st and 3rd definitely.

the others were to see where i could sort of take them with adding various styles.
the last one was to replicate an actual power button give it a more to life feel just for a random graphic (probably for small onsite promotional esque stuff)

    thanks againmuch appreciated :D

I suppose i could simplify it a bit more and define it with just one outer ring and the border/bg

Agreed. Graphic is good, but work on the typography. That's default Myriad isn't it? How about something a bit more geometric to match the circles? Even just Century Gothic, or Avant Garde is a bit nicer...? Might balance it out a bit better.

Or maybe good old Helvetica Neue Bold Condensed might look quite nice.

    Have a play around.

thanks, i agree the font is a little bulky and takes away from the round design. as it was just a general mockup phase.

i think its improved with the addition of the avant garde font:

Gotham might be another font to try.

Overall, I dig your logo. Nice work.

I like Avant Garde font but for tech company I don't think it will produce the feel you are after. When I see Avant Garde I think more high end fashion, jewelry or perfume not so much a tech support business for computers.

I would try Smashing for some good fonts my choice would be Moderna or Fontin Sans or Pigiarniq.

Can't say I'm overly keen on the logo but its down to personal preference. I will say that to me it reads at best as TO not OT even with the darker outer ring. I would also stay away from the mesh looking background.

Make the O in the symbol white and the T in the symbol bright green.

I like where you're headed, but the "T" in the logo seems a little out of balance, to me. Perhaps you could make it a lowercase "t", so the cross bar comes in below the break in the "O" and the go with all lowercase for the type?

It may not work, but I think it's worth a try to see if you can get everything a little more centered inside the circle.

I kind of agree with IgnatiusTheKing...

Don't know if this will make sense but to me it looks like the T in the logo comes before the O when in reality it should be the other way round.

A lower case "t" might be a good idea if you can get the right balance.

Outside circle: thinner borders (or daker gray) so the OT stands out more.

A big happy smile face for your Hi-Tech company... just a variation.

I very much like the OP's graphic. I think the colors may need some more contrast, though. Other than that, the 1st and 3rd are my favorites.

    I even like the typeface.

AppleNewton, just an idea... if i were you, than i would try to find more ways for a possible solution for you logo.

The name of the Hi-Tech company has octo in it, so maybe you should try something, that has 8 sides. Something geometrical (or not).

The Power button is (yes, that right) a very well known "symbol", a pictogram, that is somehow standardized in the computer world (like the swiss cross, than the red cross, the turkish half moon, etc). And because of this, it is already a "boring", overused thing.

I would try, to find a new "symbol", something, that is somehow unique and that will have a connection the the name of the company.

Maybe, it would be enought, i you would make a unique logotype out of fonts... (think of IBM).

Wow thanks all, i wasnt expecting thismuch feedback at all. very much appreciated.

Basically the logo itself was a starting simple point to keep it alittle ambiguous and not necessarily complicated

The mesh background was just an advertising kind of idea, to give the appearance ofit being an actual electronic device. (mainly the 4th logo)

thanks for the tip, in trying so it more or less took away from the approach of the powersymbol concept that kind of is where they wanted to go with.
but it did look nice if they didnt specifically want the power symbolism as it gave it a much more simple less bulky in your face kind of design.
    thanks for that, =)

Makes complete sense and was something i was debating making it for the brand, to the eye it looks like the T comes in the first /top layer compared to the O...however seemed to be one of the best ways to represent their overall idea.

and covered by the previous poster, the lowercase "t" did provide a very nice logo/graphic if they wanted to part away from the typical power symbolism.
    thanks very much!

Kind of what i was thinking, as it looks alittle to chaotic with the two outer rings and the inner "O" & "T".

    thank you!

Those are very interesting, I especially like the type.
I was kind of trying to deter to a new type of logo in essence to their want for a power button esque symbole involving more shape and contour, originally theyre logo was an infinity symbol but looked like "ooctometa tech" lol.

thank you for your submission and work, its really nice and clean!

what font did you happen to use for the text?

Thank you, yeah the grey was kind of just getting the basic formula down, as most recommend starting with simple basic color scheme and build on that (because in the end using for advertising or branding the basic colors black/white or off simple 1 colored logos would be needed and if they cant look presentable in a basic single color form might need some work)

Maybe alittle more offset grey with the lighter grey.

I too really like the font, as it offsets the very roud and prominent structured symbol itself.

    thank you very much!

Thank you, yeah its a very unique name and alot of ideas were thrown around from the original logo being an "infinity symbol" but really looking like "ooctometa tech" it looked decent but wasnt really presentable and wanted to go in a new simpler understandable direction.

there definitely wiill be alot of revisions but for a initial branding this is kind of the basis and it looks fine, it just might need to get its own character as of course the power icon symbolism has been eaten up (every electronic device, gateways logo etc etc)

thank you very much for all your time, and great advice & resources!!!
