When I got my 2018 mini, I didn't envision Apple switching the entire Mac line to their own chipset so quickly. I figured I'd be good for 5 or 6 years. My eGPU does the heavy lifting with video editing and 3D rendering, and I figured I could upgrade that more cost-effectively than buying a new computer. I also run Windows virtually, and the eGPU is necessary there.
I've thought about getting the new mini, since it does seem to be an impressive powerhouse. But my eGPU would no longer be of any use, and I have no idea how well Fusion would run under Rosetta. There wouldn't be any upgrade path; the new mini is basically a disposable computer. So I've decided to hold off and wait to see what Apple comes up with for their new Mac Pro.
