hi all!

I have a 2012 Mac Pro 5,1 - single CPU 3.2 ghz with 32gb of ram.

I recently did a clean install of High Sierra on an OWC 6g SSD with tray.

The boot time is quite long, compared to my 2015 13” MBP (over two minutes).

The load bar hangs up towards the end and then the screen flashes, the load screen then pops up and I’m brought to the log in screen.

I’m new to the MP world and wanted to ask if this is normal behavior.

Thanks so much!

APFS? TRIM enabled?

The SSD is formatted to APFS, but I’m unfamiliar with TRIM. What steps would you suggest?

**EDIT** For reference, the boot time is currently 4 min and 54 seconds.

Thanks so much!

My system report says: TRIM Support - No

Is this a good or bad thing?

I've tried configuring the boot disk to Mac Journaled Extended with no luck as well.
you mean a clean HS no a HFS+ formatted SSD still boot that slow?

Sounds like either the SSD itself is failing, or you are actually booting from another HDD.

Ok, I believe I have worked it out.

The previous owner had a PCIE SSD that was installed installed for additional storage.

I removed that and it booted up very quickly.

I suppose that SSD is corrupted in some way.

There is still a weird graphical glitch with the screen right before the login menu, but everything seems to working great otherwise.
