These iPads outlive the cases that were sold with.
- My iPad Air 2 still works, but the official Apple case I bought back then looks like ****. Had to throw the case away.
- My 2017 12.9 iPad Pro still works very good but the official Apple case looks like **** too. I use it without a case now since nobody sells cases for this model anymore.

So will the M1 12.9 iPad Pro suffer the same fate and has to be used without a case in the future when no cases for this model are no longer sold? For the amount of money Apple asks for their Apple Magic Keyboard, it better hold better over time than their other Apple keyboard cases.
Lol, absolutely agreed! I still have my iPad Air 2 but the battery is completely shot, the iPad itself works fine but the battery dies within minutes. Went through about 4 cases on that one.

My 2020 A12Z iPad Pro 11” is my current main iPad and after almost 4 years of ownership it is only this year I am fully utilising its power to stitch and create my YouTube videos along with editing other footage for other projects. I have already gone through 2 cases on this iPad, thinking I may need to get a Magic Keyboard for it before they stop selling the ones for it eventually. Also need to get a Pencil for it now to 😅

Truly amazing devices. :D

Apple Smart Cover (for the former iPads) rules a lot. Love it. I do see why Apple did it like that: iPads (at least until the 9th gen) were to be handled like a tablet, not like a pc-like tablet. It is useful to cover it or take it off, whenever needed, with those powerful magnets.

My 2018 11” iPad Pro is still going strong. It’s my main computer & content creation tool. I edit photos & videos on it. I draw on it. I consume media on it. I’ve had no compelling reason to upgrade it for over 5 yrs now. Perhaps when the OLED M3 iPad Pros finally come out this year… maaaaybe. We’ll see.

Just curious, what’s the cycle count of your Air 2?

In retrospect - I wish I had never updated the iPad OS. "New and improved" is not necessarily tru
1st-gen iPad Pro users have frequently stated that iPadOS 13 (when Apple changed the naming scheme) was the beginning of the end for these devices, both in terms of performance and battery life.

Apple forced my 9.7-inch iPad Pro from iOS 9 into iOS 12 (I did NOT update it willingly, if would still be on iOS 9 if it were up to me), but seeing the glass half-full, complaints abound. iPadOS 16 users report a desolate conclusion, with the device being pretty much obliterated, sadly.

iPad longevity is good in terms of hardware, but overall usability depends on the software.
