My first band was a Milanese loop, which I got with my launch day S0 back in 2015. I never wore it, because I quickly discovered that it had a tendency to pull hair. Meaning hair on the head, especially short hair - my hair, my son's hair - it didn't happen every day, but it happened enough to be annoying (and painful). So I stopped wearing it. I just ran a date calculator and it says I've had an Apple Watch on my wrist for 2,390 days - I've probably worn the Milanese loop less than a hundred of those days. ?

It did look cool in the box, though. ?

Yeah I also bought the SS S0 with the Milanese Loop and mine also pulled hair that’s why I changed to the Link Bracelet shortly after. I loved the box that came with the first Apple Watch so much.

I've had my new Milanese for a few weeks and have had zero issues with hair pulling (though I do not have especially hairy arms) and maybe only once or twice needed to re-tighten the band. Seems like the magnet is slightly stronger than the one on my wife's older SS Milanese, but I can't be sure.

I do know that a lot of people swear by the Milanese but certainly there are some that don't prefer it. I'm quite happy with it. Still love my Link Bracelet but it feels heavy and less snug than my Milanese. YMMV.

Regarding a matching strap, I have the Nomad Graphite steel band and LOVE it!

I've gone through both the stainless steel chrome and link bands from Apple, as well as the Milanese. I have just changed to the sport bands and have given away my chrome link because:

1. Scratches on Chrome link were quite visible. No so much on the black.

2. Tons of places for dirt to collect. Just cleaned before giving it away in an ultrasonic batch and the water was really dirty.

3. With the fabric sport loop that came with my watch last year I found that I loved it.

a. International bands come with matching international clock faces (if you can get the applet to work)
b. So much lighter
c. Just throw it in the pocket of my jeans (so I can find it afterwards) when I do the wash and then it's as good as new
d. Colors may fade with time, but then they probably have a new interesting band.

I have kept my Milanese for dress-up occations though. I'll get rid of the black stainless steel link since I just don't use it.

I hardly ever wore them because they just couldn't stay tight during a day of use
Some years ago I had to return my Milanese loop because for the same reason. Tried again last year and it seems to stay put now.

The Milanese loop is extremely comfortable and doesn’t pull my hair at all. I’m not worried about scratches because it is easy to avoid the band touching the watch. I’m mindful when I put it on, take it off, or charge it. I love this band, the main draw backs are that it is not water resistant and the compass doesn’t work with it. I use my Starlight watch with the graphite band - an elegant combination.

1. Not water resistant how? It is steel, right? What are the issues?

2. About Compass not working, this is odd that Apple didn’t do some magnetic shielding or something.

1. The way the magnetic clasp is constructed, water can get in and, if enough and for long enough, it can damage the glue holding the aluminum and the magnet inside and rust the iron magnet. Someone a few years ago posted pictures of his clasp bulged out by rust.

2. Apple states that bands with magnets can interfere with the compass accuracy. Since a compass requires magnetic susceptibility, I presume there’s only so much shielding they can do.

Ah.. I see. So Milanese is to be cared for around water.

I’m not sure why, I assume both reasons are because of the magnet. Here is what is says on  website for the Milanese bands.

I’ve been reading About Milanese, and see that I might need to take a lot of care while taking off and putting it on lest the case and glass get scratched.

What’s your experience to that effect?

With a little attention when putting it on or taking it off, I’ve never touched the milanese band with the apple watch. Other than those two times, I’ve been pretty care free with it. It’s not been an issue or a nuisance for me. It’s definitely my favorite band.

Reading quite a lot of horror stories has made me wary, although I am always careful with my electronics.

I have always loved this loop, but I’m kinda having second thoughts since right now I am unable to find a screen protector as well. I don’t mind case scratches at all, it’s part of the watch’s life which will be 3-4 years max. But screen scratches is something I will not be happy with. Hence, I’m leaning towards a leather link because of this tendency to scratch.

When I am able to get a screen protector, I’m picking up this graphite Milanese!

On another note, would this 44mm protector fit the 45mm? This comes with a black bezel so I’m thinking these bezels would eat into the new display that has thinned bezels, yes? Any inputs would be welcome!
