All of Apples range of computers have seen unusually long times between updates (eMacs 13 months for instance) - in hindsight, I wonder if this is due to Apple's decision to move to Intel. It allows them to get as much life out of a product as possible and require fewer changes/updates before the final move to intel.

It's a move they must have been contemplating for quite some time as it's not one to be taken lightly.

In light of this, I think we can expect new iBooks anytime between now and October with the mini update even further away.
 
From what I understand, I don't think the long time between updates was an effect of the Intel switch so much as the reason for it.
