This has been happening for a long time. Maybe two years?

I always see it when I enable DnD when I 'leave a location' and it lists a random business. Or it gives me travel time to a commonly visited 'business'.

Apple software is quite junk and not proof read at all.

This has been an issue for years. Most of the POI's near where I live are caused by this data import. Apple Maps is hopeless.

Why has Ashford hospital appeared in this article, I used to work there and Apple Maps shows it at the correct location.

Isn't their POI data sourced from TomTom? The map data is OpenStreetMaps but I thought businesses are TomTom, Yelp and a few other data providers.

Rand McNally never had this problem
Even Google still has these issues. In the New York City area I constantly had to check a zipcode whose's lat/lng got re-assigned from Staten Island to 20 miles away. Also directions sending users to a business location located in the middle of a lake in New Jersey. Had nightly scripts to verify these issues were not re-introduced.

I used to see it a lot where businesses would be shown in streets of the same name but in completely different suburbs. Sometimes a whole line of houses would be labelled as shops or offices.

I've always wondered why the hell there were so many strange 'home businesses' around my area. Would explain how so many POI were so wonky too. It’s been like this since launch, Im surprised it wasn't worked out sooner that this has happened. I wonder how theyre going to fix it now, since surely the information they have now would be all mixed up with what they started with.

what a mess!

We have the same or similar problem in Norway, lots of “non-existing” businesses in residential areas.
It has been like this since Apple Maps was created, I reported it once, but of course no improvement
