As for the card I think I have decided here it is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127217

Looks good to me. You should document the build process, or at least let us know how it goes- besides the obvious work reason, I think most mac and PC users use their PC for gaming.

As much as I would love to wait I know whatever Apple puts out will be out of my price range.
Especially when it comes to video cards, I would love to get a mac for gaming, but for the price and gaming the PC wins in this case.

One thing you should consider is noise level. That MSI Card looks like it has a pretty huge fan on it, which is better for overclocking, but not better for noise. My eVga 7600GT is the not the moat quiet card on the planet when it's working hard, but the sound from my infinitys drowns it out. ;) If noise is an issue, you may want to consider a "silent" card, like the asus or msi version. if not, I can readily recommend my card.

*Out of Curiosity*

How much is this machine going to cost you?
Its going to total up around $1400, which is considerably less then it should cost. I work for an independent reseller so I am getting most of the parts at distributor price, that knocked about $200 off the total cost of the build, as well as free shipping for most of it.

I will be taking photos during the process so I will be happy to post them for u:D I can't wait to put it all together!

Yes its true, after being windows free for 19 years I am getting myself a PC to complement my powerbook.

Before everyone jumps down my throat about a PC let me explain:
I like to play games, and many of the games I want or currently own do not run well on the Macs I own.
I am aware the Intel Macs are out(I have read this forum for 5 years) but I sadly do not own a MacBook Pro.
I would love to get an Intel Mac to dual boot, but its too expensive right now, and the Mac Pro's will be out of my price range.

So I am building myself a PC, here are the specs:
Motherboard: ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4 GHz processor
Video Card: ATI All In Wonder 2006 Edition
480 Watt Power Supply
16x DVD Burner
Maxtor MaxLine III 7V250F0 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 533 (PC2 4200)
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-WW Black/Silver Aluminum Bezel, SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Acer 19in Flat Panel Monitor
Logitech MX3000 967553-0403 2-Tone USB + PS/2 RF Wireless Standard Desktop Mouse Included

Tell me what u think. I can't wait to build it:D

don't forget the antivirus software. believe me, you'd need it. good luck.

BFG has stuff with lifetime warrantys, you may want to think about that. I have a 6800GT that gets noisey when dirty. BFG was like send it in and we will ship you another but I just take it apart every 3-4 months and clean it. Still a lifetime warranty on a computer part is sweet.

Just don't get Norton or McAfee. They bog down systems like no other.

I'd personally go for Ad-Aware + Spybot Search and Destroy + Zonealarm + some internet-based anti-virus. I used to use a free one... but I've forgotten the name by now.

On my most recent gaming PC, I didn't have any Anti-Virus software. Just don't go to questionable sites, and don't say yes to all of those security warnings, and all should be well.

Thats my plan, I don't plan to browse the net much with it, my Powerbook will do that. This machine is only for gaming, no email, no IM, no word processing.

Yeah, if you do mostly LAN gaming (LAN Parties) or don't play networked games at all, I'd skip most of that extra, but necessary software (firewall, AV, anti-spy/ad-ware) as it just eats up your resources. I usually end up killing all of the processes anyway at LAN parties, as it's a good way to free up memory (esp. when you're playing on a laptop with IIG and only 384MB of RAM-killing explorer.exe frees up about 20-25MB.)

Update #3

Good news the hard drive did show up today, so I can put the whole thing together Saturday:D I will post some pics tomorrow of all the boxes and components before it goes together. I will also post some pics of the finished product if it all goes together well.

Here is pic #1, all the boxes etc:

You should know by now, a lot of people here still think that PCs are for games while the Mac is a good work platform.

Nothing wrong with buying a PC to play games on, certainly works better than some of the lousy Mac ports of the games.

"Macintosh for productivity, Linux for development, Palm for mobility, Windows for solitaire," indeed. ;)
