Anyway, I've noticed different departments of huge companies have nothing to do with each other. Apple used to have Sony CD-R/Ws in them, but my parents have a Pioneer DVD drive and LG or something CD-R/W in their Sony PC. Go figure, the right hand doesn't seem to know what the left is doing. Or care.
So technically IBM, Sony, and Apple can compete against each other, and themselves.
Just like RealPlayer for OS X (vs Apple's QT) and M$ BU. Just the way business is.
You get a company like AOL/TW that's so big, it kinda can't help but compete against itself. In my area TimeWarner RoadRunner cable net competes directly against AOL net access. They even have ads dissing each other.
Pretty funny if you think about it.
