iOS devices are easily supported for 5 years, at least iPads. If you get a pro at a good price, go for it.

Any specific need for the 12.9" size or can you deal with smaller? Plenty of good prices on 10.5 or 9.7 inch models right now, even new, let alone used.

I would get a 12.9” iPad Pro 1st gen, or a 10.5” iPad Pro 2nd gen. They both have 4GB of ram. I would totally avoid a 9.7” iPad Pro 1st gen, as they only have 2GB of ram. And in that case, you may as well just buy a iPad 6th gen for around $200 on eBay or something which also has 2GB of ram.

Also, Walmart has old stock of iPad Pro 2nd gen 10.5” 64GB models for $299 brand new.

This^ would be my Avenue right here!

Only in store for $299, and only if that Walmart has them in stock. One Walmart near me has 4 left.

Go to this link, type in your zip code, and look for stores with available stock near you. The 10.5” 64gb iPad Pro 2nd gen is the way to go! Best deal ever at $299.

Each major iOS release usually drops some devices, but it’s very unlikely that iOS 13 will drop the 1st Gen Pros (A7 powered devices are running iOS 12 and the 1st Gen Pros use A9X.) As another poster mentioned, the 9.7” is underspecced compared to the 12.9 (half the RAM, difference in processor speed), so I wouldn’t buy that one as it could well end up being dropped earlier than the 12.9” 1st Gen.

The 10.5 and 12.9” 2nd Gen Pros had no such discrepancy in specs and have 4GB RAM as does the 12.9” 1st Gen Pro, but they do suffer from the bright spot issue, which doesn’t seem to occur in the 1st Gen.

In your position I think I’d go for the 12.9” 1st Gen.
