Hi,

I am looking for a company named "Select CD ROM" from the Netherlands. Does someone know if they still exists? The address was Select CD-Rom, Postbus 5361, 6802 EJ Arnhem, Netherlands. I am unable something useful on the Web, only entries at the Internet Archive. šŸ‡³šŸ‡±

Thanks!

You could try one of the maps apps (or several of them) and see what comes up when you enter the address listed. If it shows something like a restaurant or warehouse, odds are Select CD-Rom is no longer in business.

As I said before I didn't found something useful. These terms are too common. Hope that someone else will remember them. Their market was Great Britain, France, the Netherlands and Germany.

Yup. A sketchy CD for Win95 from a sketchy company from 31 years ago (McAfee 2.2.7 was Nov 1995). Odds are slim to none that still around.
They weren't sketchy. What are you talking about? The CDs was sold with German PC magazines in the 90s.

I still own some of the CDs they published. Including software from Microsoft including Monster Truck Madness and Hellbender.

The CDs I mentioned doesn't seem to available there but I am still interested in their destiny. I hope someone here remembers this company, because I can't find something useful and I don't understand Dutch.

I would say they are gone. Lots of companies come and go in the tech space. We used to get disks with a bunch of stuff with MaximumPC and other publications. Same goes for the Computer paper here in Canada. I went to college to do paralegal/criminology and bought a IPC canada Computer. It was awesome. I loved it.

That's very sad! 😢

When my aunt used to work for a kiosk in Hamm, Germany, we did get a lot of unsold magazines then and we made contact to these very good CDs! Stacked magazines! From all publishers here. I remember well a CD where the game "The Gene Machine" was there as full version.

Why did that happen in Canada? šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ The market broke?

The internet blew up. Nobody buying papers or advertising in them. They sold advertising and gave the paper away for free.

That's interesting because in the early 2000 years nearly no one did had have Internet in Germany. And if yes, it was just too expensive here. ISDN and DSL? Someone remembers?

The famous Bravo Screenfun did published still magazines with PC games until it was discontinued when Internet really took over in April, 2009.

We got our internet connection in our house in 1995. I bought my IPC in 1996. By 2000 here, the Computer Paper was gone.

I tried to search on kvk.nl and found one company that might have been Select CD ROM in the past. Here is the data from site and translation below:

  • Orange Juice B.V.
Show less
    • Tivolilaan 205 Unit 7.1, 6824BV Arnhem
    • Postbus 2122, 6802CC Arnhem
    Trade name:
    • Orange Juice B.V.
Translation: Developing and operating computer software. Designing, producing, operating and maintaining communications, database, information publishing, internet and CD-Rom and CD-i applications and all other communication tools.

There was also an actual Select CD-ROM B.V. but it says company is deregistered, location is also not the one on your CD but in Westervoort, close to Arnhem.

The address you provided leads to another company, also deregistered now but they were responsible for publishing content in magazines and stuff.

  • UITGEVERIJ RONED
HET ONTWERPEN, MAKEN EN PUBLICEREN VAN RECLAME-TIJDSCHRIFTEN IN DE RUIMSTE ZIN
    • Hoofdvestiging is deregistered from the Business Register
    • DE GANZENPOEL 79, 6932LC WESTERVOORT
    • POSTBUS 5361, 6802EJ ARNHEM
    Trade name:
    • UITGEVERIJ RONED
My theory? In 90s it could have been a single company or two related companies who decided to split ways and then owners closed both companies and the new one - Orange Juice B.V. is the company that was created thereafter, because obviously there is no longer CD ROM business anymore these days. Or that this company ā€œSelect CD ROM B.V.ā€ paid to the publisher ā€œUITGEVERIJ RONEDā€ to publish the CDs that they have been burning.

Probably was a profitable business back thenšŸ˜Ž

UPDATE: Orange Juice B.V. is a digital marketing agency from Arnhem. It is probably the company that was UITGEVERIJ RONED in the past. Technically this is the same company from your CD, maybe they have been burning ROMs as a side hustle or maybe that was what they started from
