Looking for a Mac- and PC-compatible application for organizing photos

I would like to store our images in one central location and index them by a minimum of 3 custom fields and keyword tagging.

I think Adobe Bridge would work, but you need to splurge on Adobe Creative Suite to get it. Will Lightroom do the same thing? Our purposes wouldn't tap 1% of Lightroom's power, and that seems like a waste.

Is there another program out there like Adobe Bridge for both PC and Mac?
