That's for Mac System 7.5.3, which is a completely different beast.

I have, but there don't seem to be any copies flying around at the moment. I was hoping someone on here might have one lying around.

I might be able to help with 7.5. Just so I'm clear, you need 7.5 specifically not 7.5.3?

Yep. I can't seem to send you a private message, but that would be great.

So I think I've managed to run down the 7.5 CD for 6100/7100/8100 PowerMacs. Try touching base via PM again. (I should now have sufficient privileges to receive them.)

Welcome to the forums!

You're probably best off expanding your search to include all of the NuBus-equipped Power Macs, as it will be easier to find a solution. An 8100 would be a little faster, and not any more expensive these days. A 6100 would be slower but I imagine it would still work OK. For what it's worth, there are a number of these machines on ebay now, including at least one 7100/80.

If the Audiomedia II NuBus card is fragged then you're in bigger touble, they are obviously less common than the PowerMacs themselves. You will then have to find an equivalent card...and PCI cards are much more common than NuBus cards. In that case you might consider getting something newer (like a G3 desktop/tower) since a G3 is probably not any more expensive than an earlier PPC machine and is easier to find parts for.

As an aside, many of these old Macs are cheap enough that it might make sense to buy two of them, so as to have a backup machine or a parts source. And while you're at it, it wouldn't hurt to shop for a decent UPS, that should prevent another lightning damage incident and can be used with any computer, so no upgrade worries.

Good luck!

I agree with you. These machines are so old that they may even be more expensive (if they are well preserved) than a Power Mac G3 or G4. Having said that, they still attract attention and interest. I have a PowerPC 7100/80 which is upgraded with a Sonnet Crescendo G3 to 266MHz! Its a lovely machine and runs fast with its own software under OS 7.5 see here

Have also posted other videos, check my channel.

I am amazed how I managed to install OS 7.5 in just 8 minutes! Try to do this on a modern machine!

Great!I think if you manage to put a "new hdd" on it or a cf card/ssd the thing would fly.
It interesting to see that those upgrades are available for cheap on sonnet site.

Only problem is that these days it is very difficult to find a reliable SCSI HD. I do not know if there is a way to install a SSD on this. I have seen PowerBook 160 having SSD card installed, but the result whas about the same as the original HD.
