Hi,

I would like shock proof / drop proof protection for an iPhone X.
It's mainly due to young humans dropping it, not me.

I keep being drawn to the rhino shield mod but I hear nothing but poor reviews. Odd, b/c I thought their iPhone 6 and 7 cases were absolutely the best.

Is there one case that stands out from the pack? I wouldn't go any thicker than a rhino shield if that helps. That means Otterbox and just those huge UAG cases are out of the question for me.

Actualy i believe that UAG Plasma is thinner than Rhinoshield. I havent measure them but this is the feel i get in hand. Yes I have both.

What poor reviews have you read? The mod I didn't like but I've had many playproof's and they've all been good. The only poor part about the playproof is it's a little slick but not terrible and no worse than most others.

I don't believe there has ever been a case made for any phone that is shockproof or drop-proof. The very definition of those two words means that they are 100% effective in protection when shocked or dropped, and no case maker in history has ever been able to design such a case. :)

However, there have been several companies who have come and gone (and one that's still around I believe) that has a case they market as "drop proof" but just means if your phone does break, they buy you a new one, but I think there's a co-pay so it's more of an insurance service.

Apple Silicone case is super minimal and has great drop protection.
The drop protection of iPhone cases made by Apple is not so great. It is very minimal. Also, Apple does not make clear cases which is too bad. Covering the back iPhone color does not make any sense while the owner chooses certain back color while ordering or pre-ordering as the chosen color now is covered by another color and cannot be exposed or admired by others.

I've dropped my 6S, 7 and X multiple times, on multiple surfaces at various heights with no issue while using Apple Leather or Silicone cases. My X has been knocked to the ground even more than my 7 was at this point and not a single issue. Everyone's experience is different but that has been mine.

As an investigator, unless there is an evidence on how the phone was dropped, what height it was dropped and see this event, the statement or opinion does not carry any weights.

Lifeproof next
I have this case, and I am really trying to like it.

It’s very well built, good button response, feels like it could handle a lot of abuse, and looks great.

However, it’s very wide, and has a super slippery back that fingerprints/scratches easily. The rubber grip around the edges helps a lot, but this case isn’t for small hands. I would definitely not call it a slim case overall.

I can confirm that the rhinoshield mod is trash.

This is in stark contrast to the rhinoshield playproof that was for the iphone 6s and 7 and 8. These are outstanding.

Rhinoshield has torpedoed their company reputation as around these parts I've asked many fo the stores and every single salesman said the clear back scratches, and it doesn't fit well in general, and it's even harder to remove.

I concur with all the conclusions, I'm returning mine. It absolutely didn't fit well, the buttons are indeed loose, and the back will scratch, possibly due to them using recycled materials, not sure about that rumor.

In short, I can't think of anyone who would keep this case once they try it on their iphone X.

Avoid!

Nomad rugged leather was good in terms of looks and protection, except that it's too wide. Significantly reduces the one hand ergonomics due to its width, and I have above-average sized hands. The other issue is that the buttons are too hard to press, which is a no-no.

I'm a big fan of the Spigen Liquid Air Armor case. It's TPU, it has great corner cushioning, it has a closed bottom, and the fit and finish is top notch.

It's my go-to case for my 3 kids, they've had them for their iPhone 6's and now their iPhone X's. Less than $15, thinner than the Apple case, and what I believe is the definition of your "thinnest shockproof drop proof iPhone X case". You should check it out.

The inside grooves will collect dust and scratch your phone. Just so you are aware

Happened a little bit to my 7plus but I cleaned it enough it’s subtle scratching

Caudabe Sheath claims 6 foot drop rated and it’s very thin.

I really like the case, but honestly don’t see how it would do much as far as shock protection if it was dropped from 5-6 feet

Can’t really trust mfr ratings

Possibly, for me this Spigen is my skiing/beach case as I use my Apple leather case 90% of the time. But when I'm going to get sandy or wet or full of lotion or am building up a sweat I swap into my Spigen to save wear and tear on the leather.

So I haven't been in the case long enough to notice scratching from the dust collection, but I can see how it can happen though.

Ah yeah if you use it infrequently you’ll probably be ok
