Not really looking for the newest model, i just want something bigger than my 6s to watch movies/shows on a plane. Also would just be using it for basic functionality email, office etc and nothing too heavy. Anyone have any suggestions for an older model that won't be so outdated in the next year or so that i could get second hand probably for 1-200?
TIA

Sounds like an iPad Mini 2 is the match for you. It's not as snappy as the Mini 4, but it will do the job just fine.

If you're looking for the larger size, you could get a decent iPad Air for around that price.

I like the Air branded iPads and would go for one of those personally.

iPad mini 2 refurbs are $229 through Apple right now, and come with a warranty. They have mini 3's, but they are a bit more $$$.
What kind of price range were you thinking? (edit-I just saw where you said $100-$200).

Best Buy has open box 32GB Air 2 for $285 right now. I can't recommend saving less than $100 and getting an older iPad than that. That's a fantastic price for an iPad that will last several more years and still perform great.

That is a really good deal!

Definitely the Air 2. There is a massive difference between performance and display between the Air and the Air 2. Spend a few extra dollars and get the Air 2. It will last much longer.

The iPad Air 2. The 2gb of RAM is the same as the Pro and the triple core A8X still beats most tablets on the market today. It's gonna be around for a LONG time.
It sure is! The tablet from 2014 that scores pretty much the same as 2016 flagship phones in GeekBench :)

Yep. OP I would take that Air 2 deal that was posted. That is fantastic value.

Stay far far away from iPad 3 and older. Even iPad 4 is pushing it.

Air 2 will probably last you an incredibly long time and you won't become frustrated by its speed anytime soon

Got an air 2 for $275 on black friday at Best Buy, can't beat that price. Whoever said ipad 3 above is smoking something, mine is slow as hell and can only do ios 9.

iPad Air 2 hands down! Best value for money iPad right now imo. Laminated screen with vibrant colors is a big step up compared to older iPads before it :) speed is still crazy fast.

Go buy a 32GB Mini 2 WiFi.
Don't trust 2gb RAM story.
Mini 2 works like a charm on iOS 9.
Keep running on iOS 9 as long as you can.
The iToy is not a necessity.

My s/o's iPad 4 is still running beautifully on iOS 10 and you can snag a pretty good deal on one. No Touch ID, but if you're only using it for light media consumption, then that probably isn't a huge issue.

iPad Air 2 is a little more expensive, but it's a marvelous tablet. Ignore what others are saying about it being "pretty good" or whatever. It's top-notch.

I'll be selling my original air for around $150 after Christmas if my brother and SIL doesn't buy it. But for a little more money, I think I'd buy an air 2 if it were me.
