Looking for Cheap plex media player

i need to get plex on a tv that we use once in a while
So I need a media device that has plex
Has to be cheap in price and have a simple to use interface for old people ,so not a chromecast where you need to use your phone

Simple to use interface and low cost plex media player

Any recommendations ?

How about a Roku box of some type? I use one (a Roku 3, IIRC) on a Sony TV. It performs pretty well (I have a Mac Mini 2012 as the media server and storage on a Synology.)

I also have a Samsung tv which has a native Plex app. That's pretty straightforward, my elderly technophobic father has used it to watch stuff so if you're using a 'Smart TV' of some sort, a native app might be good, too.

Fire stick or roku stick ?

Also can't use Ethernet in the location of the tv and plex needs to be free

I've not used the Fire Stick but a colleague has one and she's enthused about it but she's more about streaming from Netflix and Prime and doesn't use Plex.

I hear the Roku sticks are good, I've just checked and my Roku box is a Roku 3 Streaming HD player; I assumed that these would have come down in price since I bought it (due to release of the Roku 4) but on Amazon UK they're still £99, which is quite steep. Maybe a used model would be cheaper? I rather like the Roku, it's quick and intuitive and it behaves better than the native Samsung app on the other tv.

I suppose another option if there are iOS devices around would be an older Apple TV and try to AirPlay from it?

I went with the roku special edition for $30 on Walmart website
Is basically a roku 1

This was the cheapest roku that's new around

This special edition came out in November of this year for $25 on Black Friday ,so $30 is a good deal still

The roku stick was $45 and the fire stick is $40

So if you need a roku Walmart still has them online for $30

The roku SE has the same specs as the roku 1 from 2013

You can add people as friends in plex and they can stream your movies from anywhere


All they have to do is create a free plex account which you can do for them , they just have to open the app and hit play nothing else

You can setup your family this way if you use plex
