Hi,

I own a Macbook Pro 2012 and as usual - and regularly - the cable breaks at the magsafe L
I have changed this cable at least 10 times over the years, but things have changed a little bit now since I have a cnc lathe/mill here now.
I milled off the enclosure of the defect Magsafe-L and made my own enclosure which is open on the connector side so it's easy to repair the cable once the cable is worn out (or it would even be possible to add a better cable relief), I closed it with a small cap (glued it in place and in case the cable is worn out again I can just open it again).

Does anyone have a defect Magsafe-L (V1) cable / adapter lying around at home and could ship the cut off cable to me for recycling?

Certainly someone could just buy another cable from aliexpress, but I'm looking forward to repair a few of them in a way they can serviced from time to time.
I'll get some other heatshrinks for the second one and will also drill a small hole into it to expose the LED.

Left the original one ... right the reworked one.

the small hat is glued but can be removed, so no need to use pliers to damage the connector in case of another service (which I expect since I'm still using the bad quality cable, but I'm sourcing better ones now).

you can just search for "L" style on that apple site.

I was so annoyed of that... I'm still using the original power supply (I don't really trust the quality of the Chinese clones since you cannot even tell where they are from, and the original one shuts down the power if there's a short circuit; not sure if the clones can do that).
The cable with the red tape has a terrible isolation, just the same as in the other discussion:

Machining maintainable enclosures at least allows to use alternative cables and change them whenever necessary, and I don't have to buy the entire replacement cables anymore because they are even worse than the original and require regular swaps.

OP:

That's a very interesting job you did on the repair.
Could you show us some more pics?
Example -- what does the enclosure look like before installation?
A pic or two of the installation process?

I still have to rework the cable with the red tape; I'll make some photos when I work on it. Possibly this weekend.
If there's any demand for that let me know then I can make a few more.

I'm just sliding in the connector into the blank which I have made before and put the cap on with super glue as mentioned.
I'm not glueing the entire connector it's just stuck firmly enough in the thin slot - it's re-usable :)
So far I'm happy with that.
