macOS Looking for Fellow Newb Programmers

would like to join in the Newb programming group

I'm not only a Newb to this MacForum, but I'm not even a Mac User (I know, pummel me with rotten fruit and rubbage! 😱 ). I use linux and I only know some C, C++, and Java and trying to learn other languages on my own in my free time. I am a college student in programming, yet still not very good at it, and I was looking for the same kind of people when I 'googled' for other programmers and this forum's thread showed up. Hope it's not too taboo to request to join in? 🙄 If it's cool, my name is wettoloco on AIM, asustud1 on yahoo, and daedwards on MSN. Hopefully someone will hit me up, or beat me up for asking a Mac Forums to let a PC guy partake 😕 Anyways, I'll check the thread later if i haven't heard from anyone. Thanks! Peace 😎

(although i have been getting very good at web dev)

jahveed, I'm sure you'll find that all the members here are very friendly and extremely receptive to participation from outside the (loosely-knit) "Mac community". I'm sure some members might regail you with stories of having been boo-ed off of Windows-user websites for being a Mac user, but I have no such colourful stories... All I can tell you is that you'd be very welcome here.

Once this properly starts (this newbie programming project) you might find yourself at a disadvantage as things move on, because some of the programming will be specifically designed to be used in the X-Code programming environment, making programs for Mac OS X. Of course, the Objective-C coding won't itself be a problem, so perhaps it'd be better to cross that bridge when we come to it.

Thanks for your kind reply josepho. It's unfortunate to hear of PC-users putting down Mac users, but we all know the reality behind how PC is a "wannabe" knock-off of Mac architecture, and never has compared to Mac software or hardware, so rest assured anyone that mocks a Mac-user is surely ignorant and jealous. I can vouch that I'd trade my PC for a Mac, but my PC is worthless compared to a Mac (or any PC for that matter! 😛 ) So just saving with plans to make my next purchase a Mac. Anyways, nuff said --> :apple: <---
Secondly, I appreciate your insight to the X-code programming environment. My hobby is reading new literature on different platforms and languages, so I'll check into Mac OS X and the X-Code programming environment and try to get up to speed on it soon.
 
Hi. I've just sent you a PM eenu. Personally I think this is great idea an I'm really interested in it. I'm not new to prgramming completely as I studied coding in Java and Ada95 at Aston University (UK), but I graduated back in 2003 and haven't coded since then, so to say I'm a bit rusty would be a bit of an understatement! This is exactly what I have been looking for to get my feet wet in programming again though 😀
 
i'm in the same boat as a couple of other people that have posted here, id like to learn to program, but i have little experience in that area. i've been on a computer (pc and mac) for a long time and i really want to do this, that is to say i could learn quick. anyone willing to "take on me" (i really hope someone gets that reference)?

Hi all, I'm interested in this. I take on board rokem's point about noobs teaching noobs but sometimes eenu's answer is right, and also (unintentionally) experienced people can seem a bit scary. A few years ago Mozilla wanted testers for the browsers, particularly on OSX, and I wanted to get involved but didn't have a clue from the info on the web site what they wanted doing! Decades ago I was a programmer, and I've since written bits and pieces in shell and perl, but all the stuff about seeds, trees, builds, forks etc ?? So if you don't mind making zero assumptions ... like - seriously - how do I get IM going? I'd like to join in. Also I have a book on Objective-C fwiw ;-)
 
I am interested in learning some programming, I have basically no experience, but this may help me to get started. So I'm in, just send me a PM.

c++ Java and html so I can also make widgets. I used to be a programmer back in the 19th century but things seem to have changed.

And from my limited experience, object oriented programming is desirable but is non existant. It's all like fortran.

I'm in, trying to learn ObjC, last time I coded was basic and assembly on a console a quarter of a century ago. I'll pm you soon as I'm back at my Mac.

The Definition of Noob

Hey guys, this sounds really awesome but Ive never coded before. What programs do we need to get started? I pretty much need directions from step #1. If anyone wants to take the time to help me out I would really appreciate it.
