I'm not even sure if "compression" is the right word to use.
What I'm trying to do is make some unedited video files smaller to burn them to dvd's just to clear up some hard drive space. I really don't want to lose the HD quality though.
I'm not sure if this is possible, but if anyone knows of some freeware or anything that could do this, the help would be greatly appreciated. =]

Thanks, Becca

MPEG Streamclip is able to convert your HD footage to smaller video files, but know that due to the compression you loose image quality, and depending on the source material that might be pretty much.

Have you considered getting an external HDD? You can get one for 50€.

Where is your source material coming from and what editing application do you use?

I have considered an external hard drive....But I've got a 100 pack of blank dvd's that I don't want to go to waste. Haha.

All my videos are shot with my Canon VIXIA hv30.
Right now I'm just importing them into iMovie but I'll have final cut express in a week or two.

The process of compressing and burning all of those is not worth your time. I suggest you just buy an external and shove all of them onto there.
