Part of the plan when I picked up my MBP was to buy a display as well. So I was planning on putting a little money away and either getting an ACD or 2408WFP. In the meantime the realization of other priorities I could use the extra money for and the lack of need for perfect color reproduction, etc has caused me to question the need for such a display.

That said, I picked up a 22'' samsung from costco for super cheap to try out and make a decision about needing more than a TN panel. The TN certainly has all the issues people describe, but none of them have affected usability. The real issues I've had are the size and resolution. The display will be returned to costco this weekend.

I've been shopping the last few weeks and am having a hard time finding an appropriate display. I want:

    1. 23 or 24 inches
    2. 1920x1200. This is key. I really don't like working with the 16x9 ratio. It's as bad as I thought it would be.

The issue is that I want something in a lower price range, so likely a TN panel, but with the resolution mentioned above.

Does such a thing exist anymore??

Have thought about picking up another cheap Samsung and buying a dual head to run dual monitors?

I was in the same boat - bought a 24" ACD, thought it looked great, but wanted more real estate so I purchased (2) 22" monitors and love it.

I've even considered a single 22'' at 1680x1050 over anything 16x9. The aspect ratio is what's annoying for me.

The only way i could make two monitors work with the space i have on my desk is if one of them supported being rotated 90 degrees and using that for my document work.

I have Dell 2209wa's (see sig), I believe they're hard to find now, but they're an e-IPS panel with 1680x1050 - they were a steal at $219 each and the stand allows you to rotate 90 degrees. :D

I'd go for a Dell, but depending on your budget, the recommendation might have to change.

I don't know if I'd say they're the best but they are pretty good. I'm using this one with my Macbook--resolution is 1920x1200 and very happy with it. The newer version of that model is even a few bucks cheaper. I know it's a bit bigger than you specified but the 24" model is barely any cheaper.

Most (Dell, Samsung, HP, NEC) 24" TN that are decent quality and 1920x1200 are around $350. I don't know what you have looked at so far but I'd be looking at the NEC LCD24WMCX, Dell E248WFP or one of the Samsungs.
