I am currently using the Mac Pro's internal speaker.

I am not interested in getting the typical Bluetooth or wired "external" speakers. Instead, I am wondering if there is such a thing as a "pluggable" and "unpowered" external speaker that just plugs to the audio out on the front of the Mac Pro and has two tiny speakers to give stereo sound. I understand sound quality is limited; I simply want stereo sound capability that is a bit louder and clearer than the internal mono speakers.

    Any suggestion?

There aren't many out there that are unpowered these days.

You don't say why you want unpowered speakers, but I can think of several reasons. Depending on your reasons, you might consider USB powered speakers like these from Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-...sim_147_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1A1JABN7YMSM4TND1288). I don't have personal experience with these but my wife uses a now discontinued set from Creative Labs that work well for her. Being USB powered, you don't have any power supply brick to deal with to either power or charge the speakers. You simply plug the audio cable into the computer for the audio signal and the USB cable into an available USB jack to power the speakers.

    Thanks for the tip.

I am actually look for much smaller speaker that is "mounted" directly to the audio jack so that it will just sit directly next to the audio out port on the Mac Pro. That was the reason why I was mentioning small in size and unpowered.

It is hard to describe what I am wanting. That's probably the reason I am having so much trouble searching on the Internet for it. I don't think I have the right vocabulary to describe these speakers I wanted.

Try searching using "iphone mini jack speaker." You'll definitely find a lot more things like that made for iPhones than for Macs.

That's your best bet but I'm concerned that you won't find anything that's really all that much better than what you have now. But if there is anything that would be the term that helps you find it.

16 ohm speakers connected directly to an iMac's headphone output. Note that most home speakers are 6-8 ohm, and connecting speakers below 16 ohm could damage the computer...

You're probably best off with USB powered speakers.

Yikes! Thanks for the post. You are correct. This is far too elaborate for what I wanted to do. More or less looking for a complete ready-to-go solutions instead of a DIY one.
