My plan is to buy the latest Mac Mini when announced in Oct or Nov with maximum memory and 8Tb SSd. Then I plan to have two MiniStacks with 8Tb SSDs. The good news is it's for my business so in the UK I am entitled to the Capital Allowances Super Deduction (130%) and the VAT back. Reduces the actual cost dramatically making the cost/benefit ratio a better investment proposition. Thoughts? Any other configurations suggested?

The super deduction is for plant and machinary investment, and unfortunately that doesn't include computers (although it does include the desks they sit on!).

From the UK Government website[https://assets.publishing.service.g...ata/file/967202/Super_deduction_factsheet.pdf]:
What is plant and machinery? Most tangible capital assets used in the course of a business are considered plant and machinery for the purposes of claiming capital allowances. There is not an exhaustive list of plant and machinery assets. The kinds of assets which may qualify for either the super-deduction or the 50% FYA include, but are not limited to: • Solar panels • Computer equipment and servers • Tractors, lorries, vans • Ladders, drills, cranes • Office chairs and desks, • Electric vehicle charge points • Refrigeration units • Compressors • Foundry equipment

So don't miss out.

Oh! Huh. I need to talk to my accountant again!

Nobody can really comment on that without knowing what you are going to be using it for. Also, we don’t know what max memory is yet - anything above 32GB would likely be a waste of money unless you have a specific workflow that needs that much.

Same goes for 8TB storage - that’s a lot of expensive eggs to put in one basket (which lives and dies with what will likely be a “no user serviceable parts inside” Mac Mini). Again, maybe you have a good reason for needing that much built in, but for general use I wouldn’t go above 1TB internal and use external drives or NAS for bulk storage.

It's arriving tomorrow. Excitement has been building. Interesting the journey it has taken from China.
