The Tungsten T5 arrives, just minutes ago, Palm has released the new handheld, pity, it has no Microphone and that's a big minus for me... I'm still waiting for the next release, Treo 650 in 3 weeks, and Zire 73 maybe next year... Wrong from Palm, IMO.

The T5 sucks. very disappointing. It should have been the Tungsten E2.

plastic case
no voice recorder
no OS6
no WiFi
CPU isn't impressive either
fugly curve
NO Mac SUPPORT

Oh well, I'll have to get a T2 on clearance. I wonder what the Tungsten C2 will be like.

But you see, this is what's so great about PalmOS. Everything is stored in active memory, so you never "close" a program. You just execute the code and the program is brought up to the screen. All code always resides in RAM already so loading "bringing data into RAM" and closing "flushing data from RAM" is not needed. Instead of thinking of it as closing one program to open another, think of it as switching applications. Much like when you have Safari and Mail both "open" on your Mac, but you have "closed" them, hiding them from the desktop. As soon as you click on the icon on your dock, they spring back onto the screen without a delay.

Is this so? I've got a large file (500k+) on my Palm, and it takes a long time to 'load' it from wherever it's stored.

Without a serious improvement in Palm OS, I fear I'll be going to a Windoze platform as well for my next PDA...🙁

Good luck buddy, but think about worms, bugs and virus, adware, (whatever)ware ... B. Gates got that too.. see my sig. 😉

T3 or T5

Ok, for me its between the t3 and the t5.

the advantages to the T5 that i can see are:

mountable drive
more memory
and the flash memory feature.

the problem is, it doesn't come out til nov. 😕
i don't think i can wait that long.

my question is: is it the New OS (5.4) that allows the drive to be mountable, and if it is can i upgrade a T3 to the new OS.

and as for the memory issue, when you ad memory to the pda, is that memory only used for data storage, or does it also effect the performance on the machine.

also does by adding memory, to say a t5, does that increase the flash memory capablity or not. As i understand it, and this is based off what i read, i've never owned a PDA, but i kinda need one now, the flash memory preserves your data and settings etc if the pda runs out of juice, or the battery dies completely.

is that right, anyone with a T3 ever experience this problem?? if so how often?? and what is the battery life of a T3 vs. a T5. because if i can upgrade the os, and the os, is responsible for the mountable drive, then i see no reason for me not to buy a T3 today, if not then.......

anyway anyone who knows about this stuff please let me know. i really do need one soon. thanks 🙂

I use a Zire 31 (same basics as the 71, only less expensive).
Works good with my G4 PowerBook.

Writing in "that little space" takes some getting used to but once you master it, it takes little effort. There is a setting on the Palm that allows you to write on the entire screen. I treid it it and prefer the smaller pad, but it's available if you need it.

Is there still a market for PDA's? Surely most phones can do all those functions and more, while being about the same price.

i use an ipaq to write down notes reminders throughout the day and sync them with ical with the missing sync.

i can write almost as fast on the ipaq as i can on regular paper. putting down an assignment in it takes no more than 10 seconds including due date and a few lines of text. I can't do this with a phone and dragging my computer around is annoying. there is definitely a use for pdas.
