I need more storage. Should I swap the one I have in my mbp. It is 60 I want at least 160. Am I better off just buying a firewire external? What are some good brands?

My suggestion would be to do a search on the forums for this topic, as it's been beaten to death. You can probably smell it from where you are, it's been dead a while now.

I suggest Lacie's hd.

This is so true, try a search on the forums, so many threads on hd's.

Depends on if you need that files on your computer all the time or not. Personally, I'd upgrade your internal drive and put the old drive in an enclosure that's bus powered. That way you can carry your external with you everywhere you go.

If it's not portability you;re after, look at a 300 - 500 Gb 3.5" IDE drive in a quality Firewire case like a MacAlly. You'll have oodles of room and can have a complete image backup of your existing drive.
