Looking to buy first external hard drive

    That drive will work just fine. You Mac does not have USB3, but USB is backwards compatible so the drive will work.

    When you first get it attach the drive then use Disk Utility to erase the drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format.

    i prefer seagate 500 or segate 1 terra. its vey good hdd for external use

    Honestly buy what you like they are all very much of a muchness these days as long as you stick to a reputable manufacturer.

    Thanks for all the replies. Going to buy that Samsung one but 2TB:)
    Should have bought one a long time ago.
