    Hey guys/gals,

I'm thinking about purchasing the current 15" MBP base 2.4 i5 model from school for $1699. ($100 off)

    They also have a blowout on the previous model (15.4" LED / 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 4GB (8GB max) / 250GB / NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256MB Shared) for $1299.

From comparing the specs the difference between the two is obviously the processor, graphics, HD space & slight battery life.

My main use for this would be basic browsing, email, presentations, school work, etc. Also planning on running VM Fusion (Win 7).

I also thought about the current base 13" model but I like the bigger screen and feel of the 15"

Side note, both 15" MBP models qualify for the iTouch student deal.

So, I'm here to find out about your guys' honest opinions on which direction I should I go. (Pros & Cons) Any feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks!

$400 is a nice chunk of change, but that 2.53ghz MBP is the crippled version, with ONLY the 9400m. That video card is hardly worth it, especially in a machine as solid as an MBP. The $400 is definitely well spent on moving to a much faster processor (i5), and for the dedicated graphics support. If the $1299 model featured the 9600/9400 combo, it may be a tougher decision, but if it's that model, then there is no question.

Yeah, it's not the 9600/9400 combo. Only the sole 9400m. $400 is a good chunk of change though..

FWIW, get the i5. Newer version will be more powerful and serve your future needs better, IMO.

You'll be happy with the LATEST model. You also get the chance to HR matte/glossy :p
