I just sold a 2009 17" MacBook Pro 2.8GHz with a 500GB hard drive and 8GB RAM for $600. It was in really great condition, it sold within a few hours of posting the ad. Why do you think your 2009 MacBook Pro is too old to sell?

Because mine is not in good condition.
I was a smoker back then and have since stopped but it was my first laptop and for some reason the brain cannot answer, it never occurred to me at the time to think of the damage all that smoking around it was doing to the computer.
No, I would not foist my smoked up MBP onto anyone :)

Plus my battery is now dead on that one.
I am thinking of just throwing in an SSD drive into it and using it simply for browsing when in bed at night or using Kindle on it to read some e-books, etc.
Not sure I really use it there but I can salvage it for my own use but would never want to expose anyone else to what it must look like inside having smoked around it.

Thats a good price.
Are you Canadian or American?

I already knew I could have got a bit more from the one I just sold, which is why i stated that, so as other Canadians who might be looking to sell get a clear idea but i am on a month break from selling online and really just wanted to get rid of it fast and easily and not have to deal with anyone.
I really wanted this month to be free of all spammers, etc, but i don't believe I would have got any more than $700 realistically without gouging.

IF people feel I let it go too low at $600, by all means, mention that here so the next Canadian wont make that mistake but i personally feel that $650 at the most was a price I would have gone with had i wanted to waste a bit more time. HAD I wanted to hold out for $700, than I would have had to deal with many more people, scammers, lowballers and i really felt I wanted to enjoy my last two weeks off without having to encounter any :)

I had asked earlier, near the top of this thread what people thought i could get and another fellow room Toronto, iPad Retina felt I could get $620 at the most with my cycles. Yes, I could have got a bit more but as stated, thats the area I too felt it was worth.......and I liked the person that i sold it too...so again, i haven't any problems with having received $600 for mine

I can appreciate your frustration. One question: Why not just send the repeat lowballed's email and the abusive ones straight to junk mail? That way, yo u never see them and they can send them all day without wasting your time.

Sorry, I should have added that professional lowballers do change their email addresses every once in a while and when they do, some you just recognize from their style.

They know that people flag their emails so they do need to change them periodically, or, some just have 5 going at all times and u can tell from the 005 number after the name its the same one again ;)

I am American. I sold mine on craigslist. Originally I had is listed for $650 and within a hour or so someone offered me $600, done deal. I looked around at what other people were charging for used 2009 MacBook Pro and then decided what looked fair. There were people selling for higher amounts and lower amounts. I looked at condition and what options were included. I always keep the original box and supplies that came with the computer. I always treat my equipment with great care so that come time to sale, it will be easier to sell and get a good price for it.

I will do the same thing when I sell my 2011 27" iMac, in a couple of months, when the new iMacs are released to replace it with a new 2015 retina iMac.

I have always sold electronics through craigslist, for cash only. Never had an issue. I won't buy any items from craigslist though. Kind of funny that way. Mac computers are easy to resell if they are in goof condition.

I never kept my box. Living in a condo I used to throw everything out but this time when I bought the 27" retina iMac I decided to keep it in case of resale but when I bought that MBP I never imagined selling it.

Funnily enough, someone threw out a 21" iMac box a few months ago as I walked to our garbage room. In perfect condition, brand new. I just had to do it. I couldn't bear to see it thrown away so I posted it up on Craigslist and I kid you not, within 20 mins i had 2 people wanting to buy it. I threw it up at $30, just to see and I could have sold 1,000 that way...I felt badly actually selling it especially when it wasn't my box to sell but since it was going out anyhow...lol. Normally I don't sell items under $200. For myself I just find it too much work to deal with countless emails, people, appointments, etc and for $20+ I just don't find it worth my time. The smaller the deal, the more work it is to sell it but that one did surprise me. A guy came over right away to grab it for one he bought second hand for his daughter, r so he said but i believed him when i saw him.
I was really surprised that someone would actually pay for the empty box :)
But no, if that one sold for $30, I could have sold mine for $50...haha but no, I dont need or want to sell it strictly for resale if I ever do sell this iMac but i suppose it makes their sale better and had I kept the full box, discs, etc, I to could have commanded more than I did.

I once mistakenly said in this forum that I was likely going to toss out my 2009 Macbook (battery is almost done). I had 2 people offering me $15 for it and the cost of shipping :) I keep meaning to throw an SSD drive into it and use it for....something...i don't really know what, perhaps a media station. $15 did seem a bit on the low side :)
