Finding a nanny and a good one at that is not all that easy in NYC. You can screen for months before finding the right one, and some people dont have that time.
Good luck, freeny. Finding and evaluating videocameras and software is a lot easier than finding the next Mary Poppins.

So do you set up a camera in every room of the house that you'd reasonably expect the nanny and child to be in? Is that just a decision that you have to make based on your personal comfort level?
We only plan on putting one in the living room. this is where they will spend a mojority of their time eating, playing, watching tv etc... We have a small aprtment so their isnt many places they could go.

Dont get me wrong, my wife and I have no fears that our nanny would purposfully harm our child. If that were the case she would be gone in a second. We do on the otherhand feel she may be careless at times. She is an elderly Hatian woman with a little trouble with the english language. Very sweet, but may not be taking direction accurately and or slacking on details like food variety etc.

We just need to check in at times to make sure everyone is okay....

It sucks, but when you are a parent you can NEVER be too safe. There isn't any such thing as "over the top" when your children are involved. Good luck to you Freeny, and I applaud you in taking intitiative when it comes to your child's care.

So is putting a GPS and camera in your teenagers' car. Mine are not driving age, yet, but I'd consider it.

I have a friend who did that. He put a small GPS system under the drivers seat and left it on. His daughter was shocked when she was caught. I don't think he gave his methods to her and relied on someone mentioned seeing you over at...

There are times when I wonder if kids these days are just less sneaky.

Freeny, (and others),

What was the end result of your research and how did it turn out? 2 years later I am finding myself in a similar boat where I would like to keep an eye on our nanny for our first child.

Thanks. :)

This one's a bit old!

I wonder how it all went too.

It may be the case now that the kid has his/her camera now strapped on their 'outside of the house helmet' (people fall over paving these days, its very dangerous!), so as to verify that their school teacher doesn't look at him/her 'the wrong way'.

People do change after they have a child, some become over zealous hysterical nuts, others just simply deranged.

I guess you dont have children do you?

You will never fully trust anyone alone with your child that is not a close family member.
And even some family members cant be fully trusted.

well since more kids are abused by family members or someone close someone trusted. this is a bit silly.
