    Hey,

I just got a 16g 3GS and I love it! My phone seems to be just about perfect except for a loose ringer switch. I've read on other posts that others have the same problem. I like to keep my phone on silent and so I hear the vibration from the switch often. I mainly hear it when setting the phone on a table or when I type on my phone while its resting on a hard surface.

My 30 day return policy with AT&T is up in a couple days and it is a 2 1/2 hour drive to the nearest Apple store. An apple tech over the phone said that it is not normal to have a loose button and to get it fixed or repaired. Has anybody done this? I'd hate to drive 2 1/2 hours to find out that it is not covered, also i'd hate to exchange it for another and find that that phone has more problems than the one I have now.

What have you guys done and what would you suggest?

    Thanks,
    Aaron

P.S. Also, how many of you notice the loose switch when your phone is in silent mode?

It happens from time to time, but remember, you have one year of coverage over the hardware. Call Apple Care, and they may just outright replace it through the mail, or set you up with an appointment to replace it an an Apple Store. The 30 day limit is for your at&t service only.

you know what... I've had 7 iPhones... yes 7.... 3 long term... 4 short term... all the short term ones that died quickly all had solid vibrate switchs.... the ones that lived long term didn't... they all had some looseness to them...

Loose as in when you shake the phone it rattles.

Now dont think I sit there and shake the phone next to my head all day or anything, not that I havent:). It's just kinda annoying because I notice it whenever I place it down or type on a hard surface, shake the phone for an app, or whenever the phone vibrates. I can live with it, but if it is something that not many others have, then I'd maybe consider it getting fixed.

Other than that, my phone is perfect. If the rattle is evidence of a near perfect phone like you have experienced yourself, then I'd gladly keep it.

Thank you TEG, for telling in detail about the Service & Warranty provided by Apple. You've also told about the mail replacement service that they offer, this is the first time I've heard about it. I never knew apple would replace via mail.
