Curious if it’s a USB C thing vs lightning. When I plugged into lightning, it was always nice and tight. Plugging into the USB C port on my 15 Pro Max, I’m noticing a little movement and wiggle. Is this all normal? Or are yours tight light the lightning port?

TIA

I love new phone releases, people always post crazy little niggles.

Lightning sockets have indents at the side that lock it into the port better, USB C doesn’t.

Just for you I tested it, the first & probably last time I'll plug a cable into my phone. Yes, slight movement.

My iPhone 15 Pro USB-C port fits incredibly snug. It was a bit hard to plug in the first few times before I got the muscle memory for how different it is compared to lightning.

OP, I know what you're talking about. On my 15 Pro Max, it's NOT a tight snap or click like it is with the typical Lightning cable. I tried with a few different cables and it's more or less the same. Not terrible, but I wouldn't dangle my phone with a cable plugged in (not that I'd do that anyway).

Thanks for the answers everyone, sounds like it’s normal.

Also just saying, this wasn’t to start a “gate” post, but while in the return window and something seems like it could be off, always like to make sure it’s in the norm and I wasn’t looking at a potential of the port not working in the future.

Thanks again for the quick replies.

From personal experience is one of the reason why I didn’t like apple moving to USB-c connector, I fully understand why they had to do it but I had usb port failure on multiple devices over the years, USB-c feels cheap compared to lightning connector, recently my daughter informed me that usb port on MBA is loose is well, still charges fine but the movement is lot more apparent, this might well be down to how she uses the MBA when charging but as you can imagine with phones people charge / use in all sort of ways so time will tell if there will be port failures, I do buy the whole moving to usb-c as is just more convenient and remember few years back we went all apple just for that reason, having some apple devices that use usb-c the iPhone 15 appeals to us as it would cut down on cables but I will wait and see how well it does first.

Yes same for me, it wobbles up/down left/right ever so slightly. This shouldn’t annoy me but it does.

Always felt lightning was very robust, because you are plugging in a solid one-piece connector and the copper pins are embedded in the plastic -- they are never getting bent unless you purposefully smash the cable. USB-C is hollow in the middle. Easier to damage, more chances for error and for fitment issues. Those chances may be low, but it's there.

I hope they get rid of gendered connectors next time.

There should be no male and female side. They should be identical. I don’t know how they’d connect, but humans have figured it out so…

This is probably intentional design to reduce the strain put on the connector if the cable gets snagged or moves around.

I've seen this happen with almost all of my USB C devices, from ThinkPads to the Switch to an iPad.

I find that this is the case for plugging a USB-c into anything, it’s not a positive, clicky connection. Sometimes it’s really bad, like plugging in to some mashed potatoes. I’d complain but who’d listen 😆

And they have. It’s called wireless charging.
