That USB-C port on my Mac book (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015), does appear to become a little loose over time in holding a cable. Is there anything I can do about it so that it will hold firmly when a large hub is connected to it?
Well id say that in general, all USB-C ports are not that firm in holding the cable. They're not as firm as a Lightining port anyway... ;-)

It's why I think going to USBC on iphone is stupid.

I seem to recall fixing the port on the MacBook is difficult and expensive, like replacing the logic board or something, but I don't recall exactly.

I'm so rediculously careful with any USBC ports I have, it's a pain in the butt.

Personally I might try to open it up and resolder it down myself but I'm stupid that way.

ETA: I always keep the power cable running under my macbook, so the weight on the cable keeps everything stable.

my 8 year old usb c phone that was 400€ and is charged daily has exactly 0 problems with usb C port, so do you think super duper company like apple would put some low quality port to their flagship?

It isn't Apple putting a low quality port on any of their devices. It is a known issue with many USB-C ports. If you just search "Loose USB-C port" on Google you will see many reports across many devices it is a design flaw in USB-C.

I think the problem is that in the global market share, android:ios is 71%:28%, that means a lot more USB c devices than lightning (speaking just about phones) so higher chance for faults to appear
I did google "loose usb-c port" and I got plenty reports, but I also googled "loose lightning port" and the reports were the same

Majority of the cases though with a "loose lightning port" is dirt or some sort of gunk in the port itself or the lightning connector base. There is an actual issue with USB-C ports wearing overtime/use causing the connection to have issues. I think it is most noticed in laptops across the board because many people put laptops on the edge of desks or bend the cables near the connection causing more force and wear on the connector.

Loose USBC port has been reported many many times on the MacBook. Obviously Apple can mess it up too. I’ve never heard of a loose lightning port. It probably happens, but it’s statistically extremely rare compared to USBC.
