AEG's proposed football stadium and event center in downtown Los Angeles now has an official name -- Farmers Field -- as Farmers Insurance has signed a naming rights deal on the proposed venue.

According to earlier reports, Farmers will pay $600 million during a 30-year period to put the Farmers brand on the stadium. The announcement was made during a Tuesday news conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Although there was much enthusiasm about the sports aspect, with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa exclaiming, "Football is coming back to Los Angeles," a continual emphasis was placed on jobs and economic impact.

woo a new football stadium.... but no team?:rolleyes:

I heard possible teams are Chargers, 49ers, Jaguars, and Vikings

Stadium expected to be completed by 2015, hold 65,000 people, and have a possible sun roof that opens and closes. (It's going to be crazy when the Lakers and the new team play on Sunday... parking will mos def suck!)

Farmers Field?

What'll they be growing there before a football team arrives, corn or wheat?

If the Vikings don't get a new baggie soon they might be moving.

Whenever I think of LA Farming is the first thing that comes to mind.

It's a 30 year contract deal with Farmers Insurance Group... lol

but still farmers field....sounds funny still:D

Paid for by taxpayer money right? :D

Not really, the AEG executive in the press conference said no taxpayer money.... who knows?

A sun roof. for a football stadium. in Los Angeles.

Is this for when it's too sunny for the players and the fans?

LOL! i think it's becoming a standard for stadiums... plus the weather in LA has varied this year 110 in Sept and 80 in Jan... plus we had non-stop rain in December...

one stadium? nah, we've got two in the works.....and neither have a team!

here's one;

and here's Farmer's;

and after all these years without a team and countless "new" stadiums, we don't spend much time getting worked up over these proposals any more

I heard of the first one, but Farmers Field is official, i even heard it on the radio and people were calling to say what the team name should be

they include:

LA C.R.A.S.H
LA Rioters
LA Traffic
LA Gridlock
LA Muchachos

and many more:D

I'd believe you would have the LA Raiders again before any of those other teams. Especially the Niners. Not a fan myself, but I do believe the collective heads of my Bay Area neighbors would explode should the 49ers ever move south.

What happened to the stadium they were gonna build in the City of Industry, over near the Diamond Bar/Walnut area? I didn't think there was enough space to build anything else downtown.

Yahoo sports had a write up late last year detailing both the stadium plans ( downtown LA vs City of Industry) and based a lot off that I'm surprised to hear that the downtown stadium 'won'. Lord, traffic around downtown (where major highways converge) is enough of a nightmare w/o adding in an NFL team. Between the Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, and now the NFL that side of the county is going to a major traffic clusterf**k nearly everyday of the year.

Enclosing it means the stadium can be used for other revenue generating activities such as concerts, conventions, the circus, etc.,.

it's still a contender. It's the first illustration in my post above and it's still every bit as active a proposal as the Farmers downtown proposal. It's just that the downtown stadium proposal has recently released some info and generated some publicity. Both are just proposals at the moment.

Most likely the real competition between them is to see which one gives up first and then the other one will fade away too. :p

They already took the Lakers from Minnesota; might as well steal the Vikings too.

I will be sick to my stomach if Minnesota lets another team go to LA. It's bad enough that they have the Lakers, which doesn't even make sense in the context of LA.

The Minnesota North Stars moved to Texas, which also makes my head hurt.

Minnesota, PLEASE keep a freakin franchise from moving south again!

well all you have to do is open your wallet and build them a fancy new stadium to their specifications.......and probably a sweetheart lease for it too

Please take the Jets

I dunno, the 49ers have been pushing for new digs since the late 90s and they still play in Candlestick. Even heard some talk of the 49ers and Raiders doing a Giants/Jets deal and co-building a new shared stadium.

If the Baltimore Colts could move to Indy over a new stadium deal, anybody can do it.

Haven't heard anything on this since the last offseason, but the Rams could be in the cards to go back, the new ownership has an option to move the team if St. Louis doesn't build them a new stadium within 5 years.

I couldn't see the 49ers and Raiders ever sharing a stadium, though it probably makes the most sense. Too much bad blood between the fans, and the teams for it ever to happen I think, lol.

I don't blame the Niners for wanting out of Candlestick, I just don't think they would leave the Bay Area. I could see them moving to Santa Clara at some point. Silicon Valley has been salivating for a major league team for forever. We have the Sharks of course, but I know there are many that want baseball or football in the South Bay as well.

Ah, the Rams back in Southern California. I would like that :) I hate all this moving that the teams do, though I understand the reasoning behind it.
