I'm not in LA but regardless of the town I would go to an Apple store. Who knows if its but what I heard there are only 15 iPads at each Best Buy. Apple will surely have more than that for walk ins.

I input a random LA area zip code (90211) and it brought up quite a few results. Call them and see if they are carrying the iPad. I've had luck in my area doing this and one store I called even opens 1 hours before Best Buy and the Apple store. I'm thinking a lot of people don't know about these independent Apple stores so you may have some good luck.

If you can get to the one in Manhattan Village (Manhattan Beach) I'd try that one, It's in a smaller mall that's really out of the way. Most of the LA folks will head to The Promenade, Beverley Center, or The Grove.

I had good luck getting the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G without having to wait for hours on end and the store is inside, so no baking in the Sun 😉

No. There will be two lines at opening. Those that reserved and those that didn't. At 9am the reserved units get sold to those people. At 10am, all stock above the reserved limit starts going to the non-reserved people (all stores are getting more units than were reserved). At 3pm all reserved stock not picked up is made available to everyone.

I called and visited an Apple store today and was told the same thing both times.
