I also bought a WD passport portable USB drive for my Hi-Res 15" PB and it would not mount. The PB USB2 hub is underpowered.

Ever since this experience, I've decided to only purchase FireWire portable HDs. The data transfer is consistently fast and the FireWire port is by its very nature, well powered.
