So I don't know what happened, but for some reason, the Activity app on my phone has lost all the information from my Apple Watch over the last 2 years. And right now, nothing is being reflected on the app even if I work out today. On top of that, all the shared information from my friends is missing even though their names are still there. The funny thing is, my Achievements are still there and if I get a new one, it actually shows up. I hope I didn't lose my data, and I don't want to backup my phone because I feel that it would be permanent.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else?

Are you running iOS 11 beta? If so all your Health info is missing too. (Hopefully) Good news is it will repopulate after an hour or 2. It has happened to me 3 times so far.

After I restored my iPhone to factory settings and then used the ITUNES BU to get everything back on my phone, 2 years of activity app data was not restored. A tech suggested to me to reset to factory settings and use the BU in the cloud - but considering I had to un-pair/repair 2 watches there - I gave up SAD - 2 years almost of data, awards, achievements like they never happened. I'm now on Day 17 of my move streak - where originally - I was at 523 or something - Going to check the health app to see what's there. Never thought of that. Regardless, nothing will restore to the Activity app,.

My suspicions are the the data in the activity app was corrupted as there were a growing number of anomalous counts - nonetheless - a bummer.

Sounds like you didn't have it encrypted. If you don't have encrypted checked it dosa'y backup sensitive (HIPPA compliant) data.

I THINK I DID. I remember the Apple tech telling me to uncheck it to be sure I remembered the PW, and I'm pretty sure I checked it again - but I can't swear I did. I actually feel the data was corrupted. For about 2 weeks before - the contiguous move streak was stuck on 510. I could get the award to appear but still with the Sept. 10 date without any increment - And when I tried repairing the watch - one increment said 493 days - and there were other errors. I'm now leery of my backups which I do daily - and the ones in the cloud which are done randomly overnight. I just hope when IOS 11 comes out I get get the activity data added since the end of June.

If you DID check it then you had to make a password specifically for the encrypted backup. Then when you went to restore your iPhone you had to enter the password you created for the encrypted backup. Also it will still be checked unless you unchecked and then you would have to enter your password to verify you want it off. No WAY to be only 'pretty sure' about all of this.

I don't remember iTunes asking for my BU password so maybe it didn't happen and you've explained why. Now I'm wondering what went wrong. I can only assume that the sequence in which I checked if I remembered the PW and putting it back somehow - but was the last BU I did done with the encryption on. Irrelevant now - but there may be a next time and I want to be sure what I'm backing up daily, BU's health and activity data.

When I turned off encryption to see if I knew the PW, did iTunes un-encrypt the existing BU's - so if you turn it off, you have to turn it on and do one more BU. Probably. 2 years of data lost is high price to understand the process that I obviously didn't understand. Sigh.

I do an iTunes encrypted backup AND an iCloud backup. You can never bee too safe with data.

I did and do so every day - except I restored up from iTunes - next time (hope there isn't one - I'll do so from the Cloud). The choice of where you "restore" from is key. I probably should have restored again - etc. - but I was going to swim the next morning and wanted my AW Series 2 for the workout.

Just wanted to add another report. I'm on iOS 11.3 (not currently beta), and had the Activity app lose all data problem. I restarted my iPhone 6, still no data. I made some coffee, data was then back!

So, waiting a little while seems to be worth a try.
