Lost contacts

I've lost my contacts on my macbook pro but not on my ipad and iphone. How do I rectify this please?

What group are the contacts under on your iPhone/iPad?

If iCloud, go to System Preferences>iCloud and make sure contacts are checked.

If another account such as a Gmail account or Hotmail or whatever, Go to System Preferences>Internet Accounts and make sure the account with your contacts is A: Listed and signed in and B: Has contacts checked
