Lost Data Connection

Been using iPhones since they were released. 2 first gen, 1 second gen and now 2 3gs. On my wife's 3gs we "just" started seeing the error "Lost Data Connection" (do not remember the actual wording). The phone could be doing a number of data type things but the last time it was trying to get email. This has happened to here phone a number of times. I have not seen it on my phone.

The last time this happen she was on full strength 3G (in the car). However, it may have happened on full strength WiFi in the house.

Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas?

This problem was resolved. While upgrading from the 2g to the 3gs (from iTunes - phone was mailed to me) the data plan (old $20 per month) was dropped but the new data plan ($30 per month) was not added. So I had an iPhone without a data plan and none of the data applications would work.

Did not notice at first because it is my wife's phone and while at home she is on the WiFi Network.
