Just installed new High Sierra on new MB -also have mbaqanga and 2016 MB with same I cloud account and noticed I had 14,000 e mails on the MBA and 2016 MB but only 2500 are on new 2017 MB. E mail is working great but how fo I get old e mails - they are still on server BTINTERNET / YAHOO
Thanks

Sorted - the e mail wasn't lost its just that it took a long while for over 14,000 e mails to aopear - wonder would that have appeared any faster with a faster computer such as MacBook Air or MacBook Pro ?

It has more to do with your internet speed, how fast the email provider allow you to connect to them and download the mails/attachments and the speed of writing to the disk then the computer. And if you do other things on the computer at the same time it will take longer time.

Thanks that makes sense I guess as it is OK now and mail is all there again in mail app on MacBook 12 2017
Hopefully upgrading to osx 10.13.2 now will be OK also

Why on earth would anyone feel that they need to keep over 14,000 emails? There is the "delete" feature, you know..... I keep anything important, of course, and put it into folders where there is no risk of accidental deletion and then anything else gets trashed from time to time.

Not sure about "less risk of deletion" in folders! Do you mean on-my-mac folders or iCloud folders? I have twice had my on-my-mac mail disappear, (recovered from backups). I was not the only one. After that I moved all my on-my-mac folders to iCloud where I have not so far had any problem but think they at same risk as any other iCloud folder.

I have a hunch that on-my-mac is like POP, still works but the not the mainstream recommended way and maybe not as thoroughly tested.

I've never had anything disappear from the "On My Mac" folders, but I actually do use both iCloud and "On My Mac" for saving important emails. Maybe I should put everything in iCloud just to be on the safe side..... I also of course back up my machines, too. as well as keep emails on the server, too.
