Hi everyone! I’m hoping someone can help me out here with a weird issue I ran into after setting up a new iPhone.

SoI received my new iPhone 11 Pro today. I updated my iPhone X to iOS 13, and backed it up to the cloud. I then restored my new phone from my most recent iCloud backup.

everything appeared to have transferred fine. My text messages, photos, and apps all appeared to be there. However I have noticed that my text message conversation photos did not transfer. I had years worth of photos that were sent in conversations that I had not saved to my photo gallery. I have always been able to click on the little i symbol next to the persons name to view these photos. I have had many new phones and these have always transferred from phone to phone until now. If I scroll back in the conversation the photos are there, but they are showing as white jpegs that I am unable to open.

what has me even more stumped is that they are now gone from the old iPhone as well. They were 1000% there before doing the iOS 13 update, so I am not sure if they were lost after the update? It’s the same thing on the old phone to where I can find the photos in the conversations, but they are blank white jpegs that I am unable to open. Was

If anyone has any ideas on how I could get these back I would greatly appreciate it.

I had a small "Download from iCloud" link on that screen for each of my contacts - tapped it, and now those photos are there for all of my text conversations.

My sister had that as well. I unfortunately do not.

sucks bro, my apple pay credit cards arent working now, wont connect to new pro...
Credit cards / Apple Pay need to be set up again when you change phones. They don't copy over.

iMessage photos should, though - assuming they were all in the cloud. I'm not sure, but I don't think old messages (i.e. anything sent/received before turning iMessage in the cloud on) gets sync'd. Another alternative is to turn iMessage in cloud OFF, then do a backup. iMessage stuff then gets saved as part of the backup which should restore ok onto the new phone.

I am having the same issue. I should have just done the floating orb setup and waited in store until it was done. I also lost a years worth of photos due to an iCloud backup issue. If anyone has a fix for this iMessage photo thing please advise.

Is this a new thing, or did restoring a backup always restore the wallet contents?

I think it depends on if you do the newer sync setup option (similar to the Apple Watch setup) for new phones or if you restore from a backup. The newer setup transfers the wallet stuff and everything else, where as with a backup you have to re enter.

Last year I did the orb photo setup and had zero issues. This year I did an iCloud backup and already regret it. I rushed it in store and am paying the price. Regarding the OP, I am still able to see the photos in the conversations, but when I click the “info” icon nothing shows up.

“That screen”? what screen?

The screen the OP was referencing. Go to a text convo, and tap the person's name at the top, then tap the little "i" next to their name. That's the screen where all of the photos sent in the history of that text convo should show up.
